I recently bought a 2008 Forester from Jim. This was by far the most pleasent car buying expierence. He was very straight forward, and extremely helpful. I would send all of my friends and family there, in fact I can't wait to go and see Jim again in the next few months for another purchase. If you are looking for a quality pre-owned car he is hands down the guy to go see (he is who i will buying my cars from for here on out)! Found his cars on the internet and decided on a Saturday afternoon to visit and see what he had to offer. Drove right by the first time since I was looking for a more traditional auto sales lot. Nightmare Car Buying Experience!!! Flew down to South Carolina from New York State to purchase a used 2005 Subaru Outback. At the time I thought I was getting a great deal and the owner (Jim Gerow) came Carolina from New York State to purchase a used 2005 Subaru Outback. At the time I thought I was getting a great deal and the owner (Jim Gerow) came across as a very trustworthy guy, but in the end I ended up getting completely screwed! Within the first week of owning the car I had to replace the entire rear drive tran, discovered that the "almost new" tires he sent me home with were not at all new and SEVERELY weather checked. Now, less than 5 months later the paint that looked so beautiful on the day I purchased the car is chipping and pealing off (apparently a clean carfax dose not mean a car has not had serious body work). This car was the worst investment I ever made, it is my hope in writing this review that I may prevent someone else from having a similar experience. I've had reason to work at car dealerships a good bit over the years and, sad to say, the stereotypes of car dealers are usually true. Truth does not come naturally in that environment. But I felt completely the opposite dealing with Jim at Charleston Auto Sales. He went above and beyond at every request. It was just straight shooting, good or bad. Even when I expressed my interest in buying an Outback I liked, he checked with a previous customer who had been interested in the car to make sure they were not still considering buying it. With a sale sitting right in front of him, he didn't want me to buy it out from under someone else. That was great to see. Lucky for me they passed and I got a great car at about two grand under blue book value, and Jim helped me through every step of the car-buying process. I am now a loyal Outback owner and I love it. Jim seemed like the best kind of small businessman, hard-working and making an honest buck. Anyone considering a Subaru (Jim does have other cars but specializes in Subaru) should take a look at Charleston Auto Sales, not just to get a great deal but also to support integrity in business. While using AutoTrader.com to search for a used Forester within 500 miles of my Florida home, I noticed that Charleston Auto had several that were priced between $1000 and $4000 less than comparable models within 500 miles of my Florida home, I noticed that Charleston Auto had several that were priced between $1000 and $4000 less than comparable models elsewhere, so I got a one-way rental car and headed to Charleston. I spent a day with Jim Gerow, kicking tires, test driving, and getting mechanics opinions before picking the Forester I wanted. Within a few minutes of my decision, Jim had all the paperwork done, delivered a clean title, and got me on the road with my Forester, which drove back to Florida like a new car. The next day at the Florida DMV things could not have gone smoother as I transferred the title into my name. Thanks, Jim. More
Jim is one of the most honest and informative dealers I have ever done business with. His cars are excellent, and he knows does a great job of having them inspected. We were able to make a decision without being interrupted by our 3 yr old daughter because of how kid friendly this place is. I like supporting Jim because he is a great guy and he doesn't pay for a fancy showroom or advertising. This means that you don't pay for it either! I will definitely go back to him and refer my friends to him. More
My experience with Charleston Auto Sales makes my new car even more wonderful. Mr. Gerow was very professional and upfront about all of his cars. His prices were under Blue Book value and way under the dealership prices. I did not feel cornered or pressured at any point in the process.
