I chose CarMax because I was looking for two easy transactions and I definitely did not get that. Regarding selling my car: I got different information from a phone call, prior visit, and this vi transactions and I definitely did not get that. Regarding selling my car: I got different information from a phone call, prior visit, and this visit. This wasted a lot of my time and money (I re-titled the car and then they still wouldn't buy it). Regarding buying a car: purchase couldn't have been more straightfoward - shipped car from another location; not financing; made an appointment; and, you know - no negotiating - and I was STILL there for FOUR hours. Only bright spots were: the car showed up looking and running like I expected it to (with just a few little problems they didn't catch) and salesperson Daniel, one phone rep, and one business manager were considerate and helpful even though they didn't actually resolve my issues More
Well I went in just to look at the different SUVs to get an idea of what I was looking for and my sales person showed me a car that I liked and I took it an idea of what I was looking for and my sales person showed me a car that I liked and I took it More

These comments reflect my experience with this specific CarMax dealership. Policies may differ between locations or between individual employees and CarMax corporate, but if they do not, these issues need attention. The vehicle I received was not as described in the online listing or the photos provided before I ordered it. Prior to placing the order, I spoke with three representatives Mikaela, Leanne and Whitley. They were informative and reassuring. Mikaela told me the inspection process was thorough, that discrepancies would be addressed upon delivery, and that my transportation fee could be refunded if the vehicle was not as described. I also confirmed multiple times that the license plate mount shown in the photos would remain on the vehicle, and this was added to my account. Whitley even read the notes back to me. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, the reality was different. Daisy, the associate, pointed out that the license plate mount had been removed and the front plate was drilled directly into the bumper which was exactly what I told them not to do. When I asked why the instructions in my file were ignored, I received excuses that didn’t make sense, including a claim that “by law” they had to drill into the bumper and could not use the mount. That explanation contradicted everything the phone representatives had told me. She also stated that the remote phone agents “don’t know what they’re talking about,” which I found unprofessional. In sales, you don’t undermine coworkers or the company in front of a customer, it immediately damages trust. Her attitude when I questioned the situation only made the process more frustrating. On top of that, I noticed new paint chips on the bumper and scratches on the wheels that were not disclosed in the online listing. When I raised the issue and mentioned the transportation refund or a price adjustment, Daisy referred me to management. A service department representative, Geo, reviewed the vehicle. The “solution” offered was that I would need to return on a later date to have the bumper holes patched and painted, and the wheels repaired by a third-party vendor. I was also told I would need to personally purchase the original license plate mount, the same one shown in the photos, for $125. If the bumper repair is not done to my satisfaction, I will have to take the car to another shop and pay out-of-pocket for a proper repair. I will see what the repairs look like when I return for the vehicle, but this experience did not match the assurances I received prior to delivery, and the inconsistency between phone representatives and in-store staff was disappointing.
