I can honestly say that my experience with buy my car from Carmax was stress free. I called in to speak to someone about getting financed for a vehicle and it took less then 30 minutes to get approved. T from Carmax was stress free. I called in to speak to someone about getting financed for a vehicle and it took less then 30 minutes to get approved. The Sales guy called me back and gave me the entire breakdown as to how much i was financed for what my car payment would be and the interest rate without me walking into the dealership wasting my time. I located the car I wanted which was in another state I paid for the car to be shipped to Maryland without having to walk into the dealership. Carmax sent me weekly updates via email letting me know the status of my transfer and when it will arrive for me to test drive. With me going thru the entire process I only went into the dealership twice once to test drive the car and second to drive off the lot with the car. Adam and he other co workers worked together to make sure I had the best experience in buying my car and I thank him and the entire carmax family for making this the best experience possible. More
To be absolutely honest, my wife and I only went to Carmax to test drive a bunch of used cars with the intention of buying the one we liked somewhere else for cheaper. We did find cheaper cars but retu Carmax to test drive a bunch of used cars with the intention of buying the one we liked somewhere else for cheaper. We did find cheaper cars but returned to Carmax for our purchase and would do so again without hesitation. The biggest reason is this: While their used pricing is on the upper end of the used market value spectrum, their cars are as close to perfect as they get. And you have 30 days to make a list of everything that's not perfect and have it fixed. Here is a small example but representative of the whole experience: after deciding at Carmax we wanted the Nissan Pathfinder, we went to 4 Nissan dealerships to look at 'Certified Pre-owned' Pathfinders and found that, while a little cheaper, most were missing floor mats, manuals, DVD remotes and cup holders -- all items which those dealerships offered to sell us but not include. Not a single car we test drove at Carmax was missing any of those things. In fact, when purchasing a car, they give you a notice advising you that they guarantee a car manual and will purchase or reimburse one if your car does not include one. 3 days after our 30-day Carmax warranty expired, the car began making a squeaking sound. I called, ready for a fight. The service advisor's exact words were, "Do you really think we would turn you away 3 days after your warranty expired?" He laughed, told us to bring it in and they fixed it for free, along with 2 other preemptive things they noticed (rear hatch shocks and a tire pressure sensor). All under warranty. I do highly recommend you get financing somewhere else because their percentage rates are insanely high (our sales person even warned us of that, which is another thing I love). The Carmax way is "this is the price, take it or leave it," which takes some getting used to, but you are in great hands. More
I don't even know where to begin with reviewing my wife and my experience with this Carmax.... For the first week after buying our truck here we were recommending them to everyone, but then the headaches s and my experience with this Carmax.... For the first week after buying our truck here we were recommending them to everyone, but then the headaches started. They did our financing paperwork wrong and had to refinance a week after picking the car up raising the monthly payments and that's just where it begins. The effort to get the car registered and titled took two and a half months because of errors on their part.... They would send us the wrong paperwork, send us the right paperwork signed in the wrong places, send us the right paperwork not signed, had to retitle the truck in their name to get some of it figured out, and then still sent us messed up paperwork again. To make things worse for that 2 and a half months I had to stay on them with two or three phone calls a week and would get told yes we sent that paperwork to you overnight, only to find out that it hadn't been sent. I finally got to the point where I had to ask for tracking numbers because I was getting mislead, or lied to depending on how you want to look at it, too much. When I called and asked to speak to managers I was rerouted through the office phone lines to different offices and people trying to "help" me without letting me talk to the managers on duty and when I was lucky enough to get someone I was all but once brushed off and treated like I wasn't important. The only thing that seemed to motivate them was the fact that I constantly threatened to bring the truck back if they didn't straighten things out. To make matters worse since my wife is in the Army the truck was being titled in another state, and their delays and mishandling of everything resulted in us having to drive for a weekend to show the truck to the tax office in that state because they wanted to check for fraud since Carmax had sent them paperwork with conflicting info, and we had to pay a late fee to register the truck, and needless to say a weekend with missed work on my wife's part plus gas and expenses for the trip weren't cheap. We thought the cooperate commercials gave a great new face to the company, it's just too bad that they don't show that face to the customer when you walk through the doors! More
Purchased a Ford Explorer in January 2010 (car is a 2006 model). Salesman was extremely easy to work with, and since the family was together, allowed lots of questions, and everyone was able to drive the c model). Salesman was extremely easy to work with, and since the family was together, allowed lots of questions, and everyone was able to drive the car to their satisfaction. Financing, review of the Auto Chex report, and overall sales experience was excellent. We did make note that the one electric power folding rear seat did not work, and it was corrected a couple of days later, at no charge of course. While CarMax is somewhat higher in price than other dealers, the car I purchased was very well taken care of, and really no surprises after 1 1/2 years of ownership. I would definitely purchase again from CarMax. The experience was stress free! More
I met Bobby Anwar at the dealership. I thought he would be helpful but since I was in the pre-contemplation phase, and he realized that I was still gathering information, he seemed to be turned off. He ba be helpful but since I was in the pre-contemplation phase, and he realized that I was still gathering information, he seemed to be turned off. He basically said upfront ' Are you going to buy a car, today. Since I work on commission, I really need to make a sale ' (paraphrased as best as I could recall). Anyways, I was turned off by the experience and the no-haggle prices were not competetive with other local dealerships. I found better pricing through submitting my name and information and receiving bids from other dealers. I ended up purchasing a car from another local dealership, and had a great experience on buying a new Toyota in 2007. If that salesperson is still there, I doubt it, since his personality was not suited to sales. Maybe it was a bad day for him, but it made a lasting negative impression on me. More
Having just been through the "game" with two other dealerships, it was refreshing to see a price on a car and to know that I'm getting the same price as anyone else that walks in. No games, no other dealerships, it was refreshing to see a price on a car and to know that I'm getting the same price as anyone else that walks in. No games, no being led to a desk when I want to look at the cars in the lot, no high pressure. Don was patient and laid back and gave us just the right amount of information to help us make a decision without any attempt at coercion. A gentleman and a knowledgeable salesperson. More
I've had some very bad experiences with buying cars (new and used) but CARMAX was totally different. I did my research and saw the truck I wanted and they shipped it down and let me test drive it. There was and used) but CARMAX was totally different. I did my research and saw the truck I wanted and they shipped it down and let me test drive it. There was no pressure and no haggling over the price which was good. And I was able to look up the carfax report on the truck and everything before making a decision. They never pressured me to get a certain vehicle and I was in control of my decision instead of the other way around. As with the past times that I've bought a car, there is a lot of paper work and it tends to take a few hours to complete the process but that is to be expected. Overall, CARMAX is a great place to find a dependable car at a reasonable price. More
I've got to tell you, I've bought 2 cars over 5 years from these folks and they are just terrific. The only drawback is that they don’t negotiate their prices. I went to a BMW dealer to lease a new or pu from these folks and they are just terrific. The only drawback is that they don’t negotiate their prices. I went to a BMW dealer to lease a new or purchase a late model vehicle and got treated like I was a simpleton. I went to Carmax and got $2500 more for my trade in and bought a 2002 325xi (all wheel drive) for $4000 less than the BMW dealer wanted for a 2003 325i (rear wheel drive only) with identical mileage. I had the car delivered from a Carmax in Tennesee. When I test drove it (I wasn’t going to, but my salesperson insisted that I do) I found that it had a bad throw out bearing in the clutch. The Carmax people were apologetic and promised to take it to the BMW dealer to see if they would fix it as it was still under warranty. (they wouldn’t), so Carmax replaced the whole clutch assembly with BMW parts, total cost to me $0. All during the process the salesperson, business office people and service manager were polite, honest and kept asking if I was satisfied with what was going on at each step of the way. The next car I buy will be from them. More
