Do Yourself a Favor—Avoid Camping World Mesa, AZ On June 7, 2025, my husband, my son (and his significant other), and I visited Camping World in Mesa, AZ. We’d been shopping online for campers for a wh June 7, 2025, my husband, my son (and his significant other), and I visited Camping World in Mesa, AZ. We’d been shopping online for campers for a while and wanted to see a few models in person—one for us, and one for our son. We were upfront from the beginning: we were just looking and needed to explore options before making a decision. We were paired with a new sales associate, Steven, who was absolutely fantastic—honest, patient, and respectful. He made the experience easy and low-pressure, which we truly appreciated. (He was the best part of this entire experience, hands down. Honestly, Steven was probably just too honest for the job.) While there, we unexpectedly came across a 2025 Forest River Campsite Ultra 19KB—a beautiful trailer that had everything we wanted, even though it was more than we originally intended to spend. We let them know we had our own financing, which was better than what they offered, and provided info on our 2022 Forest River pop-up trade-in (fully loaded, like-new condition). Steven returned, visibly uncomfortable, and said they would only offer $9,000 for our trade. That was a huge red flag—our trailer was valued much higher. Still, we remained calm and explained we’d think about it and maybe try to sell it ourselves. Before leaving, we spoke with Jacob, the sales manager, and complimented Steven on his professionalism. Jacob asked what it would take to make the deal work, and after a brief conversation, he offered $15,000 for our trade—much more reasonable. We were pleased and explained we couldn't sign that day due to needing to finalize financing and access investment funds. Jacob told us, "We’ll honor this deal when you return." Perfect. We were excited and ready to move forward. The following weekend was Father’s Day, so we delayed our return out of respect for family time. Two weeks to the day after our original visit, we texted Steven to let him know we were ready to move forward—and found out he no longer worked there. Disappointing, but not surprising in hindsight. He gave us the name of a new contact, Hayden, so we followed up and filled him in. That's when Hayden told us the price of the trailer had increased by $3,000—from $29,999 to $32,999. We reminded him that Jacob had said the price was tied to how long the trailer had been on the lot and that we had a deal in writing. Hayden suggested other units, including a 2024 Cougar and a 2024 Eddie Bauer Heartland—both nice but not what we came for. We gave them a fair shot, but in the end, we wanted the Campsite Ultra, just as we had originally planned. Then came the final insult: when Hayden returned from speaking to three different managers, he told us they were only offering $13,100 for our trade, not the $15,000 Jacob promised. We showed them the paper with the original deal, but they refused to honor it, claiming it "shouldn’t have been offered." At that point, we politely but firmly walked out—and let them know they didn’t just lose one sale, but two. Later that day, we visited another nearby RV dealership in Mesa. The experience was night and day. We found an even nicer camper for ourselves—an upgrade from the Campsite Ultra—and yes, it was more expensive than what we had planned to spend at Camping World. We also purchased a second camper that day for our son—again, a more expensive, better-built unit than what he was looking at initially. Both of us walked away with campers we love—and we were treated with respect and professionalism the entire time. That other dealer gained all of our business because they listened, were transparent, and didn’t play games. Final Thoughts: Camping World Mesa was disorganized and misleading. What started off strong with a great salesperson (Steven) quickly fell apart due to poor management and shady pricing tactics. We won’t be back—and we wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of better dealers in Mesa. More
