I bought a used 2015 GMC Acadia from Butler Toyota in January from Benjamin (salesman). He was very nice and polite. He invited me to test drive the car while he sat in the passenger seat. We couldn't ride on the nearby interstate because it was backed up, so we had to resort to driving around the block in the neighborhood. We didn't get the speed up above 40 mph, but I thought felt the car tremble around 30 mph. I asked Benjamin if he felt the car tremble. He said, "NO SIRRRR." I then tried to get the speed up more so I could see if the car would do it again. I couldn't get it to repeat the action, so I didn't worry about it too much. When returning to the dealership, I told Benjamin that I didn't want to pay for problems. He told me that it was against policies at Butler Toyota to ever sell a vehicle with engine or transmission problems. His manager, Jeff, backed him up by telling me the same thing. They even gave me a full diagnostic report that they performed on the vehicle. There was no mention of any problems dealing with the engine nor with the transmission. So I felt more confident in the purchase I was about to make. I told Benjamin that I would hate to have to return the vehicle because of problems. He said because there was no warranty, that I could not return the vehicle. I already had been approved for the amount of that vehicle by my credit union, but when they sent in the document with the car's information, the credit union would not approve the loan (because of the low value of the vehicle). I have an 800+ credit score, and I make over $85K/year. I should be able to get approved for a $15K car. Once I reported the decision of my credit union, Benjamin and Jeff assured me that they were asking for a fair price for the car. They chose to ask me to finance the car through them with the condition that I would also put down $3000 (which also resulted in an increased interest rate), and I complied. I REALLY wanted the vehicle. Upon driving the vehicle home, I felt the car tremble several times. I felt/feel stuck!!! I also received several letters from the other finance companies who declined to finance me for that vehicle...INCLUDING A LETTER OF DENIAL FROM BUTLER TOYOTA!!! I made a point to explain to Benjamin that I was only denied financing because of the low value of the vehicle, and not a low value of my finances. I was planning to attempt to fight to return the vehicle or get them to fix the transmission issue, but I felt I first needed to obtain a full diagnostic from a different dealership. I didn't know how hard that was...how long one needs to wait to have that done. The dealerships I reached said I would either have to leave my vehicle with them for a period of 3 days - 3 weeks or I would have to make an appointment at least a month in advance. I did that, but once I showed up for the appointment, I was told that there was no way to get an "accurate" diagnostic of the transmission without fully disassembling the transmission. That killed any chances of my fighting to return the vehicle to Butler Toyota to ask for a repair/refund. But I decided to write this review so all customers could be better informed of whom they are dealing with when they decide to do business with Butler Toyota of Macon. I would also be very unfair if I did not mention that the General Manager who is on site was extremely nice, and seemed to be a good businessman. I'm hoping he reads this review. There were a few other complaints I had about my experience, but in the interest of not making this review ridiculously long, I won't go into detail at this time. Anthony Martin 678-360-8352 More
