The vehicle was represented to have just 1700 miles and "as good as new", and they offered to pay shipping, so it was a slam dunk. Problem #1: Their documentation represented 892 miles, the website indicated 1700 miles, but the vehicle arrived with 2992 miles! I believe this is actually a violation of Colorado law. Problem #2: They literally damaged our vehicle prior to shipment. Upon purchase, they agreed to remove the Bob Penkhus placard from the rear hatch prior to shipment. Apparently, some barbarian used what could I could only guess to be a razor blade or an ice pick to perform this simple procedure and literally gauged the paint down into the primer in numerous (maybe 10-12) deep scratches on the hatch. Problem #3: There were other, non-reported issues with the vehicle. We had to remove a small dent from the rear fender ($200) and we still have a large scratch, well into the primer, on the driver's side mirror. Problem #4: The housing on the driver's side c-pillar was slightly damaged. The clips from behind the housing were broken off. Our local VW dealership stated that this likely occurred when the dealership removed some electronic component wire that had been threaded behind the housing. Warranty will cover the repair, but this will cost us about 2-3 hours of sitting in our local dealership while they fix it. Problem #5: We had to badger them for the next 6 weeks to get reimbursed for the shipping, which cost me $1100. It wasn't until we finally submitted a review online and e-mailed Andrew Cohen, the General Manager, that we received our reimbursement check. FOR THE RECORD: problems 1-3 were acknowledged and signed off by Savanah Gray upon pick up by our contracted truck driver. We gave Andrew Cohen, GM, until the close of business yesterday to propose an acceptable resolution regarding the hatch. They have finally agreed to reimburse us for the cost of repairing the hatch, even though, according to Andrew, their own body shop does not advise the repair since the paint may not match exactly and may flake off. We have also been advised by other, local body shops that due to the nature of the repair (the hatch must be stripped of all components and window), the hatch may never be the same. It could be vulnerable to wind noise and rattles from components that were not secured back to factory specifications. In summary, we did not purchase a damaged vehicle, nor did we intend on spending $49K for a repaired vehicle. We spent $49K on a vehicle with 1700 miles and was in "as good as new" condition. To date, we have not received that vehicle. Overall, I would say that they lack attention to detail, and should not be trusted in managing transactions for more expensive vehicles. We hope that you have a better experience than we did! More
Staff is amazing, took time to help with my concerns and explain what was needed for my car. Went above and beyond the normal and kept me updated the entire time! I'm fell for a very well executed bait and switch as far as price I was told one price on the phone and after a two hour drive got a different price so we settled on the dealer paying for an extended warren as price I was told one price on the phone and after a two hour drive got a different price so we settled on the dealer paying for an extended warrenty but in my haste I did not notice the change in the paper work and they charged me for the warrenty also. They were unwilling to correct this and I believe this to be a common practice there. More
After only two weeks of ownership, our car died. Shane and the service team went over our car and thoroughly diagnosed and repaired the problem. They also noted several other issues and took care of them so everything on the car would be right. It would have been easy to take short cuts or just leave things that weren't quite right, but they did not do that. Instead, they did things the right way even though we would have never known. Meanwhile, Len tracked down additional documentation and a spare key for us so that we would have everything we needed for the car. I am very impressed with the entire Penkhus staff - everybody we have interacted with has been knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. I definitely recommend this dealership - it's when there is a problem that you find out what you really need to know about a company. Bob Penkhus Volvo proved itself to us. More
"They have no idea what a promise is". We purchased a Subaru Tribeca from the Woodman store, but was owned by Austin Bluffs store. We noticed it smoked a little when you started it. The sales purchased a Subaru Tribeca from the Woodman store, but was owned by Austin Bluffs store. We noticed it smoked a little when you started it. The sales person informed us "They Can Take Care of That" so the salesperson filed out a "We Owe" during the signing of our contract. Everything was going as good as buying a car can be. First thing was first. It got dark on the way home and one of the headlights didn't work. We called several times to setup an appointment to have the smoking issue looked at. They were nice enough to give us a loaner while the Tribeca was serviced. About 30 days later when not one person has called, the loan person calls to have the loan paperwork re-signed after its been finalized. We were then informed that the head needed some work and was being sent out. 1 month REALLY. About 2 weeks after that, no calls again. I called, obviously getting mad at this point. I was informed that the car was un-repairable and we would have to"TRADE IT IN". That some crap right. It gets better. They screwed me out of my trade-in and my cash deposit. They tell me its in the value of the new vehicle. Bret did personally help us with NOT find a car, and that management. We were told he would check the actions and what not, for a replacement. No such thing happened. I search there website for two weeks looking for something that had a clean carfax. We finally found a VW Routan. A very nice sales person helped us name Todd. He was very understanding of the situation, and helpful. The crazy thing is the car was stickerd up and put up for sale right as we signed the paper work for the new vehicle. We will see if it actually goes back on the lot. More
If you are a girl they treat u like an idiot. and sent me back on the road with a knowing defective vehicle. i have a 2012 jetta tdi and live 3 1/2 hours away from the nearest dealership. my problem is t back on the road with a knowing defective vehicle. i have a 2012 jetta tdi and live 3 1/2 hours away from the nearest dealership. my problem is the ignition switch got stuck in the on position (ie wont turn off the car). i call to arrange to get the switch fixed under warranty. tell them the problem tell them im driving 3 1/2 hours one way and want to make sure it gets fixed and ask if they have to the part to fix it. assured they will have the part. Plus, while im there i decide might as well get the 20,000 service done. wait a week for my appointment assumming they are ordering in the ignition switch. it has to be ordered based on a vin number. get up there and guess what they dont have the part, say they have to order it in. that was over a week ago and still havent heard from them about the part. what complete and told idiots ( which is an insult to idiots everywhere) when asked what am i suppose to do when the car ignition gets completly stuck on and i cant get it to unstuck the response was. let it run until it runs out of fuel. (not only will this likely hurt the engine it will also kill the battery. because when its stuck in the on position it leaves all the lights on. today was the day it finally got completly stuck. found the only dealership that has a tech available after 8 pm in vegas after two hours of working with me. we found the kill switch for the car. now i know what every fuse works. now my car will run but to turn it off i have to pop the hood disconnect the battery and pull two fuses. love carrying a wrench set with me. to add insult to the process as part of the 20k service they are suppose to change the pollen filter. said they wouldnt because it had to much trash on the front floor. guess what the trash was 1 plastic drink bottle. if you are the one that drives the vehicle dont get it serviced here. they have shotty workmanship and are lazy. Having spent many hours searching for a used Subaru Outback on the internet, I narrowed the search to several cars all located on the front range of Colorado. I live in Telluride, Colorado, and wanted Outback on the internet, I narrowed the search to several cars all located on the front range of Colorado. I live in Telluride, Colorado, and wanted to locate a good and well maintained car for my son as a college graduation gift. My son and I ventured out on a road trip across the state to find the right car. Penkhus Volvo was our first stop, and as it turned out, our last. Upon arriving we were promptly greeted with courtesy and professionalism. The car was waiting for us to test drive. It was in excellent shape, with a good Carfax history. The test drive went well. The representative who assisted us is a wonderful young individual named Garrett (sp?). He was great. No pressure, no haggles, very helpful. We knew we were not going to find another vehicle of the same mileage and condition, so we purchased the car. Mission accomplished. Living 400 miles away, we needed to make arrangements to have the car either delivered to Telluride, or await a future return to the front range to take delivery of the vehicle. No problem ... Penkus Volvo offered to have the car delivered within a few days. We accepted the offer. A few days later, Garrett drove the car to Telluride and we closed on the paper work in my kitchen! I then drove him to the airport here where one of the owners of the dealership, who happens to have a pilot's license, was waiting to pick him up and fly back to Colorado Springs. OK, here is the thing that needs to be noted here. Purchasing a used car and having it delivered 400 miles away, solely upon the efforts of the staff and management ... now that's pretty remarkable. Who goes out of their way like that these days, literally? My son loves his car, I feel quite successful in the search (I dread buying cars as a general comment) and life is good. And while I generally do not write reviews of any kind, I don't hesitate to write this one. It is well deserved. Thanks to Garrett and the crew at Bob Penkhus. You guys rock! The Bob Penkus dealership is probably most consistently the worst dealership I’ve had to work with. We are a two Volvo family with a 2005 XC90 T6 and a C30, which in Europe gets you premium treatment and the worst dealership I’ve had to work with. We are a two Volvo family with a 2005 XC90 T6 and a C30, which in Europe gets you premium treatment and “extra” benefits when you bring your vehicles in for service, car washes, free fluid refills, etc. Our vehicles are American specifications, but we purchased them while working in Europe. When we returned to the U.S. we went to Bob Penkus for are regular maintenance because it is the primary Volvo warranty dealership in our area. From the beginning we had problems. We have always used synthetic oil in our vehicles and we specifically told them on numerous occasions that we wanted it when they did our oil change, cost was not an issue. First the C30 went in and came back with regular oil…we had to pay for a whole new oil change even though it said on the work order to use synthetic oil. I bring my XC90 in for its oil change, again, repeatedly telling them to put in synthetic oil. They put regular oil in…amazing…this time I made them pick up the vehicle from my place of work, do the oil change and return the vehicle to me. I had minor damage done to the vehicle from a break in and asked to have a few spots painted and to have the headlights polished. A first grader could’ve done a better job painting and in fact I couldn’t even tell they had done anything since they forgot to do several of the spots. They scratched the front bumper area during the process of buffing the headlights, but didn’t do anything about it. I asked for a few other things, back seats needed to be recoverd, medal trim around one of the windows was damaged, needed to be replaced, etc. They kept telling me "parts are on order"...that was three years ago...still waiting, have given up. I have the misfortune of owning the XC90 model with the transmission problems like everyone else, and at 52K miles, the transmission started to fail and very quickly afterwards, wouldn’t even shift out of second gear. After our poor experience with Bob Penkus, we tried another garage to get our problem resolved. After various attempts it was determined the transmission was shot and would need to be replaced. Since the new garage we were going to wasn’t an “official” Volvo dealer, they were unable to negotiate a replacement transmission without the entire cost falling on us. So we had to once again turn to Bob Penkus. The vehicle was at the other garage because at this point it was un-drivable. They put my XC90 on a truck and brought it to Bob Penkus and once again the ugly side of the dealership raised its head. I was told by the person at BP that because my vehicle was brought to them by this other garage there wasn’t anything they could do. (seriously?) So after a few heated conversations with the person at BP, they said they would contact Volvo HQ to see if there was anything they could do about replacing the transmission, with or without cost to me. Two weeks later….and remember I only had 52K on my truck…they said Volvo would supply the transmission, but I would have to pay for the labor. Okay….get it done. I got a 1 year 5000 mile warranty on the new transmission and from day one it has been less than stellar. It hesitates between shifts, and often times when the gas pedal is pressed the vehicle doesn’t immediately respond. The vehicle now has 63K miles and I am looking for another suv as I know it is just a matter of time before this transmission fails as well. I might add that we worked with several technicians while dealing with our problems and none of them work there anymore. They seem to have a problem holding onto their technical staff… I only go to Bob Penkus when I have no other option. I think their problems are with their support once you start having mechanical problems. More
I purchased a vehicle from here about two years ago. The car was fine but it was declared a total loss after an accident. When I purchased the vehicle I spent an extra $1600 on a vehicle service agreement w car was fine but it was declared a total loss after an accident. When I purchased the vehicle I spent an extra $1600 on a vehicle service agreement which is supposedly refundable. I canceled the service agreement and was told it would take up to 8 weeks to receive the refund. As of today it has been 12 weeks and I haven't received it. I have called upwards of 10 times each time I am redirected to someone that can assist me we with my problem only to be sent straight to voice mail and my calls are not returned. They are great at taking your money but they don't want to give it back when its owed. Customer service is by far the worst I have dealt with anywhere. I strongly recommend taking your hard earned money elsewhere. More
