They quoted $22k to fix which was not worth fixing at that price and then low-balled me on trade in value. We ended up agreeing to a price on an X5 and trade in value under what I felt I could get but at the time, I felt my hands were tied and I believe Bill Jacobs felt that way too. I reluctantly signed the paperwork and was scheduled to come in the next day to pick up the car and clean out my trade. Before I came in, the salesman called and told me they made a mistake and I actually had to pay $1k more than we agreed to in writing. I canceled the deal and then had to follow up for a month to get them to refund my deposit. I ended up at BMW of Barrington (Motorworks). They had a similar car on the lot, offered to go pick up my trade, gave me $3500 more for it and sold me the X5 for under MSRP. Since that point, I have worked solely with BMW of Barrington on new car purchases even though I live close to Bill Jacobs. Over the next year, I purchased five new company cars from BMW of Barrington (two new 2022 X5's, one new 2023 X5M and two new 2022 X7's) as well as a 2022 430i for my wife as her personal car. My latest frustration with Bill Jacobs (and the motivation to write this review) came yesterday when I had an issue with the X5M and didn't feel safe driving it. I was close to Bill Jacobs so I decided to stop in and have them look at it. There was a loud noise coming from the engine and it got much worse when I accelerated. I was met by the porter who told me the service manager was out to lunch but would be back in 15-20 minutes if I wanted to wait for him. He said the service manager would go for a drive with me and see what was wrong. That was fine with me. I waited 20 minutes and then was approached by the porter who told me the service manager said he didn’t have time to help me and that I needed to make an appointment on another day. Again, I didn't feel the car was safe to drive but they still told me to leave and come back after I made an appointment. This is just unacceptable. I called the dealership later to find out who the service manager was that day and the operator told me both Geoffrey and Eric were the service managers on shift. I called the next closest dealer (Laurel BMW of Westmont) from the Bill Jacobs parking lot. Laurel was AWESOME! They said to bring it right in and they will look at it. The service advisor (Scott) immediately started looking at the car trying to figure out what was wrong. He even offered to drive me home if I needed to leave the car there and pick me up when it was done. Within 30 minutes, they determined that the serpentine belt was shredding because of a bad tensioner and the belt would not have lasted much longer. Bill Jacobs sent me off in a car that was about to break down which infuriated me. As a long-time customer of Bill Jacobs, I was disappointed in how they treated me on both occasions and will never work with them again. BMW of Barrington has earned my sales and Laurel BMW will service my cars from here on out. More
