If you want to be taken full advantage of then do business with Bev Smith Toyota. My 88-year-old father traded in a 2017 Ford Edge, received $12,600 in trade in value and is now leasing a 2023 Toyot business with Bev Smith Toyota. My 88-year-old father traded in a 2017 Ford Edge, received $12,600 in trade in value and is now leasing a 2023 Toyota Corolla for $250/month for 36 months. When he shared this information with me (the day after purchase), I asked him to send me the paperwork because the agreement did not add up based on the special on the Bev Smith Toyota website at that time. He never received the paperwork prior to leaving the dealership. Not in the form of a hard copy nor in the form of a USB. Dad called the dealership to ask they be sent to him and was told “you should have asked for those before you left”. At this point, I called the dealership and learned my father was leasing a Corolla with a $7,000 convenience package. I tried to explain to Ron (salesman) and Ruben (finance) that he did not need the convenience package and tried to help them understand that my father was unaware of the unnecessary extras resulting in a $30,000 lease. My efforts were repeatedly met with “he signed for this”. Was it not part of Ron’s job to ensure the customer understood what he was signing for? I explained my father’s loyalty to the Toyota brand and asked if we may negotiate another deal, such as the one advertised on their website. I was told again, “he signed for this” and the lease had already gone to corporate and could not be withdrawn. It was clear there would be no repeal and certainly no compassion. My father entered Bev Smith Toyota and disclosed he would like to lease a car and could afford payments of $250/month. From my vantage point, Ron took full advantage of an elderly man who showed his hand. I find this surprising given the location of the dealership – in Fort Pierce, Florida – a hotbed for the aging. Do they not know their demographics? Is there no moral obligation to offer the best deal to the customer? Both Ron and Ruben failed to explain that the current deal could put him in the same car (less the convenience package) for far less than $250/month given the trade in value of the Ford Edge. Shame on everyone involved for fleecing a senior citizen. More
