I went to several different dealerships when I started looking for a new car in early July 2012. Riverview was the first that I visited and they didn’t start off with a high pressure sales pitch. I told looking for a new car in early July 2012. Riverview was the first that I visited and they didn’t start off with a high pressure sales pitch. I told the salesman what I was looking for and he showed me what he had available and then told me he might be able to get what I wanted from another dealership. I wanted to look around and after visiting several other dealerships and test driving other cars I decided I wanted a Rav4 and started calling the dealerships I had visited and asking if they could get the exact one I was looking for. I called Riverview back, Chris Lopez then told me they could order what I wanted from Toyota and get EXACTLY what I was looking for. I went to the dealership on Saturday 7/21/12 and placed a $1,000 deposit and Chris told me he would place the order on Monday. I had requested a copy of the “spec build sheet” that Chris said they would get back once the order was in the system and that would be the confirmation that the vehicle was being built and what the expected delivery date would be. Over the next three weeks I called and stopped in asking for an update. I kept getting a run around, first they hadn’t heard anything, and I kept getting a promise they would call me. I managed to get Chris’s email address and emailed him several times. On 8/1 at 10:23am he told me in an email that he “should have the spec build sheet today or tomorrow according to the Toyota district rep”. I emailed him on 8/3 after not hearing from him and never received a reply. On Monday 8/6 I still hadn’t heard from him and emailed him again with no reply. On Wednesday 8/8 I stopped by the dealership at 8:30am and Chris told me he had been “out of the office” since the previous Thursday. Yet I never received and out of office reply from his email, or any kind of contact. At that time Chris told me that Toyota declined the request to build the car I wanted. I was floored! No one had ever said that this was even a possibility. The only thing I had heard was “it’s a done deal, we’ll have it here in about three weeks”. He then proceeds to tell me he can resubmit the request and he would get the car in September, at which point I asked if he would definitely get it or if it they could “deny” it again? He admitted that they could deny it. At that point I told him I wanted my deposit back and he said he would have to request the check be cut and that I could pick it up later that afternoon. When I came in later that evening we spoke to Thomas Michael and he kept trying to sell us other vehicles, and I told him no I just wanted my check. At this point he told me that he couldn’t give it to me because it needed a second signature and the only other person who could sign was not in there and would be in on Thursday. He told me he would call me on Thursday and let me know if it was ready or not. I let him know I finished work at 5pm and I left. On Thursday I called at 4:55pm and spoke to Mr. Michael and he told me that he didn’t know why I hadn’t been called because he had “delegated” to someone to call me and let me know that the second signer was out of town and would be back on Friday. On Friday I called at 4:45pm and was directed to Chris Lopez again and he told me that the owner wouldn’t sign the check until I proved that it had cleared my account with a copy of the cancelled check and that he was already gone for the day. I emailed over a copy of the check and asked what time on Saturday the owner would be there to sign the check and he said between 11 am and 3 pm. On Saturday I arrived at the dealership at 12 noon and Chris said that the owner wasn’t there yet. I requested they call him and was told “I’m not calling him!!” as if this would be the worst possible thing that could be done. So I asked if he was definitely coming in that day and Chris said “yes, I’ll call you as soon as he gets here and signs the check”. To which I replied “that’s okay, I’ll wait”. I sat down at one of the tables on the sales floor and pulled out a book. About 5 minutes later Chris comes back and says they found an alternative second signer but they wanted to be sure the check had cleared my account, I told him I’d already sent him the check copy, and his response was that wasn’t good enough because they’ve had “a lot of check fraud” and they needed to see it on my account. They wanted me to pull it up on one of their computers and I replied no need, I have my tablet and I logged in to my account and showed it to him. He then handed me a check that had two signatures on it one I didn’t recognize but the second was Thomas Michael. The person who originally told me he couldn’t give me my money because he didn’t have a second signer. I sat at the table and used a phone app to deposit the check. More
I bought a used Scion from this dealership that was supposed to be covered by their ‘special dealership’ warranty that covered any issues for the first 6 months. I also purchased an extend warranty on supposed to be covered by their ‘special dealership’ warranty that covered any issues for the first 6 months. I also purchased an extend warranty on the car. In the first 6 months, I needed new brakes, new tires, belts, the window broke, the dash was not secure, and the cutch might be going bad. All of these issues are not covered by the extend warranty or the manufacturing warranty because they are wear items, but each of the items passed the dealership ‘certification’ process as being in excellent condition. After being lied to and abused by Thomas Michael and his staff, I took it to another Toyota dealership and they said that no honest dealer would have certified the car in this condition. The only thing Thomas Michael ever offered was service on the vehicle at more expensive rates than even the other dealerships. His ‘deal’ on repairs was on average 30% higher than other Toyota locations. Either this dealership is helpless to offer assistance to their customers or they are the worse people I have ever met, either way I would STAY AWAY at all costs. No matter what deal they offer you, it will cost you in the end. In order to save $15 a month, it has now cost me over $100 a month for the past year. More
Riverview Toyota Scion will rip you off, shift the blame, and have horrible customer service. I bought a used car from them 2 months ago and they stated that it came with a 12 month 12K warranty because they and have horrible customer service. I bought a used car from them 2 months ago and they stated that it came with a 12 month 12K warranty because they provide that with all their used cars. They showed me the certified paperwork and the warranty during the sales process and since they provided this warranty with a slightly better price for the used car over Power Toyota I decided to give them a chance (wrong idea!!). The tires looked slightly worn for a car with 20K miles, but they assured me that if I had any problem with them in 12 month or 12K miles that they would “take care” of me as a valuable customer. I purchased the used car so that my wife could drive my disabled son to all his appointments and therapies. When I purchased the car they took the paperwork to ‘put it together as a package’ and I did not think that they were attempting to scam me at the time (how would I know?!), but it seems they took back the certified review documentations and the “12 month 12K warranty” paperwork. Just after the 2nd month, one tire goes bad and I go in to get it fixed. The tire develops a huge bubble due to a crack in the tire. They say that they do not deal directly with the manufacture of the tire and that I will need to go to a place like discount and they should be able to replace it under ‘warranty’. I take it to Discount Tires (very nice people) and they said that these are the cheap tires that some places put on used cars and that they come with a zero mile warranty right off the bat. The one guy seems to think this is a common scam because people go back and have to spend more money at the dealership a couple months later. I take it to a couple of other places and they tell me the same thing. In addition, they all tell me that all of the tires will need to be replaced because they are all ‘cheap’ and ‘bad’. A new set of good tires for the car with a full warranty costs around $400. At this point I am very upset, but willing to give Riverview Toyota Scion an opportunity to fix this issue. At first I was just hoping that they would give me a discount on new tires, but they were so rude to my wife that it became a principle issue. They told her that they would give her a deal on the tires for only $600 because of what happened. They refused to show us the certified paperwork or any other warranties. We fought with the lower level people for a couple of days and finally got to management. Thomas Michael was nice at first but it became clear he was just trying to shift the blame. He would not show me paperwork, but told me the tires were in ‘excellent condition’ and that they should have not failed so fast. It was a tire manufacture issue. When I told him that the manufacture would not warranty the tires because they came with 0 warranty, he said that I should just be upset at the manufacturer and not him. Finally after a couple of days, he said he would give me a ‘good deal’ on new tires to make it up to me for only $400! When my wife came to talk to them, they were rude and hid from her. At that point they stopped taking my calls and would hang up on me. I went and bought the new tires from Discount (very nice people) and know NEVER to go to Riverview Toyota Scion! I recommend that you do the same. More
This is without question the most morally reprehensible business I've ever dealt with in my entire life. We bought a car here, drove it off the lot and everything. TWO MONTHS LATER they billed us an extra business I've ever dealt with in my entire life. We bought a car here, drove it off the lot and everything. TWO MONTHS LATER they billed us an extra $1750.00 ON THE DOWN PAYMENT OF THE CAR because they are claiming the "messed up the terms." They are saying that this whole ordeal is also my fault because I didn't read the whole contract when I bought the car. That's right folks, they will VERBALLY TELL YOU LIES IN ORDER TO SELL YOU A CAR, then knife you in the back two months later. There is no chance I would have even considered buying this car if it required a downpayment $1750 dollars in excess of what they told me verbally when I bought the car. In short THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAM ARTISTS THAT WILL STOP AT NOTHING, EVEN WHAT SHOULD AMOUNT TO CONSUMER FRAUD, IN ORDER TO CLOSE A SALE. More
They were very nice to offer me a ride to their store and I thought maybe they were not as bad as the comments here. However, I was totally wrong and the experience couldn't be worse. Maybe because I look I thought maybe they were not as bad as the comments here. However, I was totally wrong and the experience couldn't be worse. Maybe because I look young, ever since we met, with Kenny, the sales who also drove me there, was asking me in every aspect about financing, as if I am just a bag of cash and he just hoped I am a full bag rather than an empty one. When talking about the price, not with Kenny, but Jason, he gave me the price pasted on the shield of the car and said a lot bunch of how the price is very fixed. The price is an OK price, but not the best, and is a little more than I want to spend. Then I asked him if the price can be lowered and how much is the interest rate he uses to calculate. He said another bunch of how this car price is not easy to change, the certificate, the warranty, blabla. Then I told him I would keep this car in mind and see what other dealers have for me. I would take whichever is the best deal for me. From here, Jason seemed upset, he asked me if I can make a deal today if he took 1000 down. I told him I will keep this car and your best price in mind, and if no other cars are better from the dealer I will visit in this week, I will come back and take this car. Then Jason totally became outrageous and went back to another room. I asked Kenny if he would drive me back home. He said 'we drive you here to buy our cars, if you don't buy, we will not waste time and gas on you. you have to call a cab'(not the exact words, but the meaning). Fortunately this is not the first Toyota dealer I met, otherwise I will probably stop seeing Toyota cars. More
William was very friendly and cooperative as he took us on a test drive. However, when he took us inside to talk numbers, that's when the trouble began. Instead of explaining the available financing intere on a test drive. However, when he took us inside to talk numbers, that's when the trouble began. Instead of explaining the available financing interest rates and possible options, which is what I thought we were going to do, he sat us down and then disappeared. After several minutes, during which we were never told why we were waiting, we were finally introduced to Kirby Pena, who began the "negotiations" by telling my wife that she had pretty eyes. After a few minutes it was clear that we weren't going to learn about available rates, but Kirby was going to try to sell us that car, even though the monthly payment was clearly going to be more than we were willing to spend. The only reason I sat through the pressure sales session was to finally learn what interest rate might be offered. I asked if financing was available for more than 60 months in order to lower the monthly payment, but he said that only about 6 months might be added. Two offers were shown to us: one at the sticker price but at a fairly high interest rate for financing, even though no information had been taken about our creditworthiness, and a second offer at an even higher amount, but with an extended warranty that allowed them to offer "new car" financing at much lower rates. As we made an effort to leave, Kirby insisted on talking to the nameless Finance Manager one more time. We waited several minutes again, and then Kirby came back with a 72 month offer that was still more than our desired target payment. When only a few minutes before, Kirby had said that a longer term wasn't really available, suddenly he had a deal with a year longer term. It has been a long time since I bought a car, and I was hoping that these tactics were no longer being used. But at Riverview Toyota, the high-pressure tactics are still alive and well: making the customer wait, disappearing for long periods to consult with someone behind the scenes who has the "real" numbers, saving the best deal for last, trying to upsell us, etc. The phony compliment, which was tantamount to hitting on my wife, only made the whole experience more disagreeable. It was clear that we couldn't afford the car we had test driven. If William or Kirby had suggested an alternative car from the lot or offered to notify us if a similar but less expensive vehicle became available, the whole experience would have been different. Instead, all they did was try to sell a car to meet their quota, and try to talk us into spending more than we had planned. More
We went in to buy a new Toyota today, with $10k plus a trade and excellent credit. After the usual waiting and talking, their best deal was $399 over the MSRP sticker price. Over. It told us everything trade and excellent credit. After the usual waiting and talking, their best deal was $399 over the MSRP sticker price. Over. It told us everything we needed to know, so we packed up to leave. The manager came out, told us it was Toyota's price for the car, then insulted us on the way out. I'll be making my future deal through the internet to avoid such a waste of time. Does anyone really fall for this? More
got a great price..then Financial Mgr. claimed: 1. the extra cost service contract was a good deal because my new car, RAV, requires synthetic oil. 2. the extended warranty was advisable because the Toyo extra cost service contract was a good deal because my new car, RAV, requires synthetic oil. 2. the extended warranty was advisable because the Toyota 3yr/36K basic warranty excludes gaskets and seals in AZ. 3. the optional security system includes an engine immobilizer. You need to know 1 and 2 are false...Toyota does not require synthetic oil..the cheaper, 'dino' oil does fine and according to two other dealerships, the 3 yr/36 basic warranty DOES cover seals and gaskets..they are NOT cosidered normal wear and tear items. Regarding 3, the 09 RAV has an engine immobilizer as standard equipment. Riverview's response to the Attorney General's complaint I followed was that they believed I "simply misunderstood the representation of these products". I am a former state investigator and I think I misunderstood nothing of what was claimed to entice me to spend more money. In addition, my spouse was present and witnessed the claims of the Financial Mgr. ( I purchased none of the options described). I suggest you consider taping convo's which may occur in similar circumstances ...and if bogus claims or statements are made, report it to your local AG office. More
