I was initially greeted by a very polite and knowledgeable gentleman regarding the purchase of a 2011 Golf TDI. He took the time to answer my questions and seemed to be well educated in VW produ knowledgeable gentleman regarding the purchase of a 2011 Golf TDI. He took the time to answer my questions and seemed to be well educated in VW product. I scheduled a test drive on a saturday but ended up cancelling. I came in for a test drive on Sunday. Orig salesman not available. A different salesman said no test drives on Sunday. He also said they didn't have any Golf TDI's on the lot. I had just walked the lot before entering the showroom and personally saw TWO Golf TDI's in the lot. Fed up with his lack of knowledge, I said thanks and proceeded to walk around to a TDI wagon in their showroom. I was looking under the hood when I noticed a family enter and approach the same salesman. They had apparently met before. They clearly said they wanted to test drive a vehicle. The salesman replied "Oh sure, right this way" and I watched them drive off 15mins later. Bottom line, educate yourself before you step foot in a showroom. DO NOT assume the salesman competent or not a crook. Finally, if you don't like the service you're getting, walk out and file a formal complaint! More
I have a 6 year old golf and this will be the last volkswagen I will ever purchase due to the sole fact that the service is absolutely the worst. I have been to a total of four different volkswagen d volkswagen I will ever purchase due to the sole fact that the service is absolutely the worst. I have been to a total of four different volkswagen dealerships for service and the only one that I a good experience with closed down due to cutbacks. Bayside VW, by far, wins the award for worst service. A check engine light (which I KNEW WAS BECAUSE OF ERROR CODES 16804 & P0420 - catalytic converter problems) resulted in over $3,000 worth of up-sell by the "VW Specialist", completely outside what I initially brought my car in for. The list is as follows: Rear Spring broken $445.00 Strut top and bearings $285.00 Sway bar bushings $130.00 Mid Muffler $375.00 Lower engine Shield missing $85.00 Coolent Flush $129.95 Brake Flush $129.95 Power Steering flush $129.95 06 Body throttle body service $215.95 timing belt $975.00 Major Service $475.95 I dont know what a 'major service' is but I do know that I've been going to a trusted mechanic and went to my mechanic 24 hours before taking it to the dealership because I wanted to verify the results of the dealership. Don't you think my mechanic would have told me that my rear spring was broken? Also, those that are not car savvy, any of those flushes listed above are basically NOT REQUIRED EVEN IF YOUR CAR IS 10 YEARS OLD. Needless to say, I withheld giving me the results of the check engine light by telling me "they're still working on it but I will need to know as soon as possible if you'd like the other work done so that we could finish everything". Once I declined the $3000 job, he said nothing was wrong with my car and they performed a "CAT WASH". WARNING: THOSE OF YOU THAT KNOW YOU HAVE A CATALYTIC CONVERTER PROBLEM, THEY WILL MAKE YOU BRING YOUR CAR IN FOR TWO VISITS. FIRST WILL HAVE TO BE PAID. BE SURE NOT TO PAY FOR THE SECOND ONE EITHER BECAUSE THE DIAGNOSTIC IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I made the mistake of paying for the first visit, only to have my check engine light turn back on again less than 15 miles later. During my 2nd visit, I was not assigned to Warren but to Joe. As Joe seemed to want me out of there as quickly as possible, I heard Warren 'recommending' to a customer with a 2 year old VW that he needed a brake flush. FLUSH!? My lesson learned is that I will NEVER set foot in a VW dealership ever again. I will sell my car before setting foot in a VW dealership ever again. VW dealerships provide UNETHICAL, UNPROFESSIONAL, INEXPERIENCED 'SERVICE'. It's unfortunate that they are the ones that they say we should trust to provide us with their expertise knowledge about volkswagens. More
This is not only the worst car dealer I have had the opportunity to deal with but they turned a tried and true VW owner into a person who would never drive a VW again. I leased my fourth and final VW f opportunity to deal with but they turned a tried and true VW owner into a person who would never drive a VW again. I leased my fourth and final VW from Bayside VW and was lied to from day one. The car didn't have the features I was told it would but overlooked it as not important, I was told service was available on the weekends and they provided rental cars. I should have known when the car didn't have all the features I was guaranteed, service was less than conveniently located, there weren't Saturday hours (or they don't do work on Saturday), I was told they don't provide loaner cars (strange, every other VW dealer did). When I questioned Evelyn, the salesperson she thought I was being unreasonable asking for such services and conveniently forgot telling me. Which is similar to everything she told me, convenient amnesia. Upon turning in the car I am being charged for items that I was never charged for in the past. When I contacted the dealership they were less than helpful and I was told by Paul Ng they would only help if I came in and leased or bought a new car from them. That will never happen, nor will I allow anyone I know to ever go to Bayside Volkswagen. Giving Bayside Volkswagen a rating of 1 is being kind, they don't deserve it. More
There was a service light on in 2007 Jetta and I wasn't sure what it meant, so I went in to Bayside Volkswagon Service in Great Neck to check. This is my 3rd brand new Jetta in 10 years and had never seen sure what it meant, so I went in to Bayside Volkswagon Service in Great Neck to check. This is my 3rd brand new Jetta in 10 years and had never seen this particular light before. Warren Graham, the service advisor, looked annoyed by my question and told me I needed an oil change. When I told him that I had one 2 weeks ago, Mr. Graham, was extremely dismissive and under his breath told me that I didn't have it there. When I questioned the matter further, explaining that this was my 3rd Jetta and have had oil changes at other place many times in the past, he rolled his eyes at me and then yawned in my face. I asked him who the manager was and he ignored me. When I asked him again, he said Valentine. I then asked for Valentine's first name. Warren Graham, then told me that was his first name. I asked for the manager's last name and he said he didn't know it. When I asked him when the manager would be there, Mr. Graham, then proceeded to suck his teeth and angrily told me "Monday" and that they were "closing in a 1/2 an hour." I could not believe the the rudeness of this person. I will never again buy a Volkswagon from Bayside Volkswagon again, nor will I give my business to this particular VW service center again throughout the remainder of my 3 year lease. I see that this is not the first complaint against Mr Graham on this and on other sites. I will be filing a formal complaint against Warren Graham with Volkswagon as well. More
DON'T GO TO BAYSIDE VOLKSWAGEN. They are UNETHICAL, unprofessional and rude. Warren Graham, the service advisor, told me I had to make "X" number of repairs before they could pass New York State inspec unprofessional and rude. Warren Graham, the service advisor, told me I had to make "X" number of repairs before they could pass New York State inspection. This list of repairs included a number of items not required by NYS law to pass inspection. I showed him documentation of NYS Inspection/Emissions Requirements and asked him if he was prepared to do the same, which obviously he could not. They failed my inspection because I told them I would not make repairs that I am not required to make to pass inspection. One of the items they told me that failed the inspections test was that I had three different tires, irrespective of the fact that all tires satisfied the requirements promulgated by law. I took my car elsewhere and was able to pass inspection successfully. Additionally, a relative of mine also had a problem with the dealer involving the installation of a defective oil filter on a brand new car (2006). They knew the oil filter was defective, yet still installed it. She brought the car home and ALL of the oil spilled out onto a $20K driveway. We reported the problem to Bayside VW and they have yet to fix the damages to the driveway for which they are liable. We have been in contact with both Susan Cochran (who also manages Helms Bros., which owns Bayside VW) and Frank Onolfi regarding the damages Bayside VW is liable for; they continue to claim they will send someone to clean the driveway but that has yet to happen (it's been over seeks weeks). Consumers should know that property laws protect property owners exactly from this kind of situation when someone or an entity has proximately caused damages to your property. They are liable, plain and simple. Note: FRANK ONOLFI is immensely RUDE. He extremely belligerent, condescending, and verbally abusive (a bully). Susan, his boss, has openly condoned it in front of him, ignoring all complaints regarding his aggressive and petulant behavior. Not only is he mal-adjusted to interact with the public, but he is completely incompetent. Additionally, although the car is covered by a WARRANTY, Bayside VW charged her for repairing a defective airbag, claiming that a rodent bit the wire. When we asked to see the wire, they said it was not accessible to the eye (yet they were able to determine that it was bitten by a rodent). A customer is not responsible nor obligated to bear the cost for VW's negligent design of their airbag system. BAYSIDE VOLKSWAGEN IS A RIPOFF. Consumers, educate yourself. Follow the link below to know what is required by NYS law to pass in inspection: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c-50.htm I encourage anyone who has been ripped off by Bayside VW to make a report to the DMV, the BBB, and the Attorney General's Office. It's fairly simple: Call the DMV ((518) 474-8943) or fill out the form and file a complaint: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/forms/vs35.pdf BBB: http://www.newyork.bbb.org/ Attorney General: http://www.oag.state.ny.us/complaints/complaints.html I also encourage you to review the dealer here and elsewhere so that other consumers can make informed decisions. http://www.ripoffreport.com/ More
I had this Golf with a stick-shift for 7 years. Last week the shifter was broken by some unexperienced parking attendant in Manhattan. I bring the car in very hard, careful not to burn the clutch and I tell the shifter was broken by some unexperienced parking attendant in Manhattan. I bring the car in very hard, careful not to burn the clutch and I tell the service advisor at Bayside Volkswagen that the car has to be pushed in. Next thing I know, I see the service advisor trying to drive the car inside the shop and the engine obviously stalls on him because of the shifter. I confront him and the manager and their excuse was that since I was able to drive the car there they can also drive it inside the shop and my insults as to their intelligence are unjustified. It made me feel that my efforts to save the clutch were in vain. While, on one hand, they refuse to give out any written statements as to the possible causes of a broken shifter because of "liability issues" when it's really lazyness and lack of any mechanical knowledge, they do not hesitate to break your clutch right in front of you and act in an uncivil manner with an attitude.
