Daughter just turned 16 and went looking to see what kind of inventory they had. A salesman approached who claimed he was the brother of the owner. I Explained I was just looking and had an 03 Toyota 4 Runn of inventory they had. A salesman approached who claimed he was the brother of the owner. I Explained I was just looking and had an 03 Toyota 4 Runner to possibly trade that wasn’t in the best shape but was mechanically solid. He stated they had just received a 2012 Ford Escape with 112k miles. He claimed it belonged to a family member that had just traded it for a Bronco. The vehicle hadn’t been through their inspection yet and he stated that if there were major issues with any vehicle they received it would go straight to wholesale. It looked nice enough and so we drove it. When we returned to the dealership I said thank you and would try and bring the possible trade I had. I went home and my son was there with the runner so I got my daughter and went back up there. She drove it and afterward I did a more through inspection. Got down on the ground and looked underneath the engine and to my surprise it was actively leaking oil all around what looked to be the oil pan in multiple places but without it being on a rack it was hard to tell. The runner I brought wasn’t in great condition outwardly but solid mechanically. What do you expect on a vehicle with over 200k miles? I figured it would make a decent down payment. Toby told me they were asking 8k for the Escape and proceeded to say let’s go inside and do the paperwork. I then said the escape had a major oil leak and I wasn’t going to purchase anything without it being fixed first. Who would? I had also looked them up on KBB and at best 6k was the $ for one in excellent condition with no mechanical issues so I told him that. He instantly began to berate the vehicle I brought saying the escape was in better condition. I replied mine was at least mechanically sound and he laughed at me. So they were willing to spend money fixing that vehicle when earlier he said they would send a trade to wholesale if it had issues. So which was it? It was ok to expect me to buy one that leaks oil relying on them to fix it right. Yeah…. Ok. Typical car salesman as he was not truthful and got mad when I pointed out his precious Escape wasn’t perfect. I had heard they were difficult to deal with and had bad attitudes there. That was coming from multiple people. One person is a successful business owner and they stated if they ran their business like Bates Ford did they would be out of business in less than six months. So there you have it. You couldn’t give me an overpriced vehicle off that lot. Who faces a business away from the road you enter it from and the building is just as ugly as the attitude Recieved there. Not my loss and I hope anyone looking to purchase a vehicle will do themselves a favor and look elsewhere. Good luck in your search for a vehicle. More
