Not What I Expected from Any Toyota Dealer Last week, I received in the mail a hand written note, on Basil Toyota's General Manager Shannon Wilsman's business card, inviting me to consider tra Last week, I received in the mail a hand written note, on Basil Toyota's General Manager Shannon Wilsman's business card, inviting me to consider trading my vehicle in, due the high demand for it. I called the night before I came to the dealership and spoke to a wonderful associate named Kirsten. I discusses the 2016 Tundra that I currently owned and she verified the demand for it and it's value. We talked about the mileage and condition of the truck and I was encouraged by her positive comments about the tundra's trade-in value. We also discussed the new Tundras and a platinum model on the lot that interested me greatly. Kirsten informed me that it was a good time to come in because of current incentives offered for this specific vehicle. On Basil Toyota's web site, a $4300.00 incentive was posted for this particular truck. I was so excited, I actually slept poorly the previous night. When I arrived for my appointment, the next morning, I asked to see Kirsten. I was informed by a salesman that Kirsten works in the back and that he would handle the transaction. I do not remember the gentlemen's name, however he did have light brown hair. He then proceeded to give me a tour of the dealership, which I didn't find impressive at all. Even Toyota of Batavia had a nicer showroom. I ignored the attempt at selling the dealership and focused on the vehicle that I was interested in. I then gave him my 2016 Tundra's key so that his representative could appraise it. We then went outside to test drive the new Tundra, which was already prepositioned in front of the dealership. I then drove the Tundra a short distance, but long enough to get a good feel for the truck. It had a few more bells and whistles that my limited tundra had, but I was not impressed enough to pay significantly more, than I paid for my truck. During the drive, I informed the salesman that I was willing to pay a little more for the 2017, but that I wanted to keep my monthly payments close to the $451.00 I am currently paying. Upon returning from the test drive, we went back into the showroom and sat down to discuss a potential deal. I informed the salesman that I owed $29,000 on my Toyota Tundra and that it is financed though Toyota Financial Services. The salesman left me to crunch some numbers with another individual, which may or may not have been Mr. Wilsman, who invited me in to buy my vehicle. When the salesman returned he laid out a spec sheet which had a lot of figures written on it. He informed me that my vehicle was worth $33,000 and that the cost of the new Tundra was $51,000. He then informed me that with my trade, my monthly payments would be $760.00 per month for so many years. He then provided me with a $660 monthly payment for a longer payoff period. Needless to say I was numb and dumbfounded. I asked him where he came up with the selling price of $51,000 and why the sales incentive posted on the Basil Toyota website was not included. The salesman then said, "what incentive, can you show it to me on your smart phone?". I couldn't believe that he asked me to produce proof that his dealership offered an incentive on this Tundra. I brought it up on my smart phone and showed it to him. He then left the table to confer with this other individual in another office, which was located in near the front window of the dealership. I actually sat there in shock thinking that this dealer's reputation had to be better than the amateur demonstration I just witnessed. After waiting for several minutes, I got up and found the salesman talking to the previous individual I discussed. I walked into the office and told both men that I wanted the keys to my vehicle and that I was done wasting my time here. The G.M., I assume, then asked me what was the matter. I told him that the dealership incentive, offered on the website and by another associate, was not offered and that the trade in value he gave for my Tundra was way off the mark and book value. He offered me $33,000 for a truck that was worth no less than $38,500 trade-in per Kelley Blue Book. As I explained these facts to him he continually tried to talk over me, apparently trying to confuse me. After listening to his lame explanations for all of my concerns, I again asked him for my vehicle keys. He said that the keys were on the adjacent desk and I walked over to retrieve them. I told him that they weren't playing fair and said good bye. He told me to have a good day. I do not usually write complaints of this sort, but it bothered me so much all week, I had to sit down to write this truthful statement of events. Mr. Mike Basil, your sales team is deceitful and dishonest. They tried to employ sales tactics that I thought were outdated and are simply wrong. Remember G.M. Shannon Wilsman invited me to your dealership. I have not been this disappointed in some time and I though that if you do not know this is going on in your business, that you should.
