BEWARE Matthew Weissman and Vista BMW. I know that car dealers and car salespeople have never topped the list of most trusted professions. However, as someone who does not often buy a new car, I learned t dealers and car salespeople have never topped the list of most trusted professions. However, as someone who does not often buy a new car, I learned the hard way how unprepared I was to deal with an unethical salesperson like Matthew Weissman at Vista BMW. I never take the time to write reviews, positive or negative. But, I feel compelled to in this case because Weissman is truly one of the most dishonest people I have dealt with in any business. The guy simply lies with impunity!! Truth be told, I share some blame for being naive enough to believe his answers without questioning and asking for more info. (At least until after my car was delivered and it was too late.) I am writing this review on dealerrater and other forums to warn potential customers. And, for his brazen unscrupulousness, perhaps cost Mr. Weissman (and Vista BMW) at least one other unsuspecting customer. When negotiating my deal, Matthew Weissman provided me a written quote sheet. The one figure that stood out to me was $712 labeled as “taxable fees(estimated)”. When I questioned Weissman about the fee, he told me that this fee was for government fess associated with the titling and registration of my vehicle. Still, as unprepared as I was, I thought this figure seemed unreasonable as I was going to be transferring my current plate and registration. When I stated to Weissman that this figure seemed high, he agreed and told me that because I was transferring registration it would be substantially less which is why it said “estimated”. I don’t remember his exact words but it was something to the effect that they were preparing customers for a worst case scenario. (Perhaps I should have known that government fees, in general, aren’t taxable...My bad.) I did not find out until after reading my financial contract that none of the $712 included any government fees. There was another $252 dollar fee on the sheet labeled as “non taxable fees”. Because it was only $252 I didn’t bother to question it. (Again, my bad). This $252 was, in fact, the only government fee for vehicle registration. (In my case, a registration transfer) Turns out the entire $712 was all extra dealer fees!! This was in addition to the $899 dealer fee that was disclosed to me. The $899 “dealer fee” and $712 “taxable fee” on my quote sheet became a “predelivery service fee” (@$899) and a “dealer handling fee” (@400) and “electronic filing fee”(@300) respectively on my contract. Obviously, Weissman knew what this $712 was and just lied!! It comprised no government fees, nor was it “estimated” . Beware Vista BMW adding over $700 in dealer fees in addition to the $899 disclosed dealer fee. Also, one might assume that the taxes associated with the cost of a new vehicle couldn’t be “fudged”, especially since they were provided to me in writing before I agreed to the deal. Turns out Weissman and Vista used one vehicle price for my quote sheet and another for my financial contract. This involved a $2000 credit. At the time of my deal, BMW was offering a $2500 credit toward the purchase of a new vehicle. Weissman assured me he was applying the $2500 manufacturer rebate to my deal when, in fact, he only applied a $2000 credit. What he did was subtract this credit from the vehicle price in order to calculate my taxes on the quote sheet. However, on the financial contract, the $2000 credit/rebate was removed for tax calculation purposes and put in as an after the fact “rebate” not affecting the vehicle purchase price and costing me an additional $120 in taxes. Not sure if Weissman manipulated the figure for my quote sheet or, perhaps more likely, this is a common Vista practice. If so, I’m sure Vista management figures that most aren’t going to complain about a couple hundred extra in taxes when making such a large purchase. If it weren’t for all the other lies, I probably wouldn’t either. Again, I didn’t realize the biggest lies until after I examined my financial contract (after financing). I might also add that when I confronted Weissman about discrepancies, and once he knew I was taking the car, he told me no one was holding a gun to my head to do the deal and that he could easily sell my car to someone else. Perhaps I should have been more willing to undue the deal at that point. Unfortunately for me, I wanted this car. As they say, live and learn! To those considering buying a car from Vista BMW and reading this review, I say AVOID Matthew Weissman and perhaps Vista BMW. I am certain there are more honest BMW salespeople and dealerships out there. More
