BEWARE: Deceptive Sales & Poor Customer Service at AutoNation USA Gulf Freeway I purchased a 2022 Toyota Prius on 03/12/25 from AutoNation USA Gulf Freeway and feel completely ripped off. First AutoNation USA Gulf Freeway I purchased a 2022 Toyota Prius on 03/12/25 from AutoNation USA Gulf Freeway and feel completely ripped off. First, I was ready to pay in full, but since my money was in a savings account, withdrawing $21K all at once wasn’t simple. Every other dealership I considered accepted wire transfers, so I assumed AutoNation would as well—but they do not, which complicated my entire buying process. Instead, I was told I could make three separate trips (each 1.5 hours one way) just to swipe my debit card multiple times due to my bank’s $6K daily limit. Hidden Fees & Window Tinting Issues AutoNation charges an extra $400 for window tinting, which already seemed excessive especially when the car doesn't even look tinted. So we worked in darker tint to the deal. When my wife picked up the car, it wasn’t tinted. When I called, they told me tinting only happens on Wednesdays, which I was never told before purchasing. I refused to make another long trip just for this, so they agreed to schedule an appointment at a closer AutoNation. However, I later found out no appointment was ever actually set. Undisclosed Damage & Safety Concerns When I reviewed the paperwork, I discovered that AutoNation originally purchased this vehicle from AutoNation Chrysler Spring, where their own mechanic reported that it needed a $1,256.60 cooling system repair due to a bent radiator support from a prior wreck. I was only informed of a minor rear-end collision, with no mention of front-end damage severe enough to affect the radiator. What my mechanic found: The bottom of the radiator is bent upward, causing the fan to press against it. This also causes the hood latch to be misaligned, making it difficult to open. The rear safety sensors were painted over, significantly reducing their effectiveness. The backup sensors failed to detect objects behind the car but beeped when someone walked near the side of the vehicle, however it was telling me that they were standing on the opposite side of the car that they were actually standing on. Unresponsive & Avoidant Customer Service I immediately called AutoNation on 03/14/25, and every night, I received a generic "We’re working on it" text. Then, on 03/18/25, they completely stopped responding. When I tried to call Roger (the manager), I was sent to voicemail and never received a call back. Instead, the sales associate texted my wife instead of me, which felt like an attempt to bypass me, the person who paid for the car—possibly hoping she’d be more lenient. At this point, I was worried they were running out the clock on my 5-day return window. More Mechanical Failures & Being Ignored On 03/16/25, my blind spot monitoring system completely failed, with constant dashboard alerts instructing me to take the car to the dealership. At this point, I had remained patient and professional, waiting for an actual response. By 03/20/25, it had been almost a full week with no resolution, so I texted Roger again telling him I was becoming frustrated. He read my message (read receipt confirmed) but ignored me. Instead of addressing my concerns, he had a sales associate text my wife again, telling her to take the car to AutoNation USA North Freeway for a walk-in tint job—without actually scheduling an appointment. Final Thoughts AutoNation USA Gulf Freeway sold me a car with undisclosed damage, ignored my concerns, and failed to follow through on their commitments. Their lack of transparency, poor customer service, and complete disregard for my time and money make this one of the worst dealership experiences I’ve ever had. I do NOT recommend buying from them. If you’re considering it, get an independent inspection and demand full disclosure before signing anything. I will be escalating this issue further to ensure AutoNation is held accountable. More
