Brought my 2021 Santa Fe to AutoNation Hyundai Hilton Head on Thursday, August 25th for a problem with the remote park assist. I told him it had been working properly until about two months ago. Before I left, I asked that he contact me if there would be any charge for the repair. He assured me that it was a warranty issue. By 4 PM I had not heard from them so I called. Jessica, the service manager took the call. She told me she Carfaxed my car and found record of a rear end accident. I told her yes that was true, it had been completely repaired in August 2021 by Hollingsworth Auto Repair in Savannah, Georgia, an authorized repair shop for Hyundai. She said there were some problems with the rear sensor connections, and it would not be covered by the warranty. I asked her to make sure everything was documented so I could discuss it with Hollingsworth’s. She said it would be. When I went to pick up the car, I read the invoice and there was no mention of any problems with the sensor wiring by the service advisor or the technician, nor did they say there was any problem with any connections, only that the technician performed “variant coding” to make sure system settings were correct. Once done, he tested it and said it was working properly. I tried it myself before we left and it was working. I was charged $169.62 for the service. So, in the end the problem was fixed but I don’t feel I was given a good explanation as to why it was not covered by the warranty. Another thing that was not discussed was on page 2 of the invoice was a campaign T8N TCU update. (Please correct me if I am wrong, TCU is the Transmission Control Unit?). Could this have been what (or at least partly) was causing the problem I brought it in for? The transmission was engaging and surging very abruptly when put into reverse, both when using the remote park assist and during normal driving. After that update, it is much smoother, as it was when the car was new. Update to review: Shortly after I submitted this review, I received an email from the dealer saying to contact the General Manager. I discussed the review with Mr. John Lyons, the General Manager. He understood the problem and agreed to refund the fee on the service invoice since it was a warranty repair. Rather than refund my credit card, he decided to have a check cut which I received today, 10/24/2022 by FEDEX. Thanks to Mr. Lyons for his help with matter. More
