Dealership and salesman were generally excellent. I was called about 2 hours to soon to complete the purchase of my new vehicle--they needed to tint my windows. Hear me out, this is a good one. I still can’t believe what happened & I hope by sharing my story I can save someone a headache. 08 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. I went & test drove it and I still can’t believe what happened & I hope by sharing my story I can save someone a headache. 08 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. I went & test drove it and bought it! This was 3/4/22. Or so I thought. I was told I couldn’t drive the vehicle home yet. They still needed to do their mechanical inspection. And they advised me they were planning to replace the brakes, tires, and battery. I appreciated the fact that this dealership seemed to actually care about making sure they didn’t sell someone an unsafe vehicle. I tried to bargain. I am a very capable DIY weekend-mechanic guy and can handle many things myself. I asked them to take money off the purchase price so I could just use that money to buy parts and do it myself, saving everyone time and money. They refused & assured me they would take care of everything at no cost to me. I was dealing with a Nick and a Ben, IIRC. There was a third guy, the finance guy, I forget his name. You know how it goes at a dealership; you get passed around to 15 different people. Reminder, this was March 4th. I asked more or less what kind of timeframe we’d be looking at. Nick told me something like, “Yeah you know man it just depends on when they get to it – it could be done in a day or a week, but we’ll let you know”. Cool. I still had to get my agreed upon decent cash down payment anyway. Figured it would all get sorted out in a few days. March 4th. I got an email from Benjamin Reifinger on 3/5/22 saying, “Congratulations on your new Cayenne! We look forward to a long-lasting relationship, and it is our sincere desire that you remain completely satisfied with your vehicle and the service you receive from us.”. I got another email from Ben on 3/9/22 saying, “Now that you've had your Cayenne for a few days I wanted to check to see if I could help you with any additional questions….” blah blah right? I responded to this one on 3/9 saying thanks but what’s the status of the car I bought? Because I still don’t have it in my possession. Today is 3/18/22, obviously. Something’s wrong. I call the first guy, Nick, and leave a VM. He doesn’t call me back but does text me back with, “The Porsche isn't going to make it and we can administer a full refund”. Apparently AutoNation 104 sells cars to people that haven’t even been checked out by them internally yet or whatever. I asked what specifically was wrong because again, I’d be happy to reduce the purchase price and fix stuff myself. We can even put it in writing if they feel better this way. Nick told me the catalytic converters were bad. Frustrated, I called and spoke with Ben who then told me the turbos were bad or something. No one really seems to know anything. And no one had the courtesy or decency to keep me updated for 2 weeks? I have been waiting, excited to take delivery of this vehicle. This was a hard hit on my credit, I was approved for financing and opened an account with the credit union, I signed all the paperwork. I even opted for some of their little warranty option packages. I thought everyone was happy with this deal. Something should have been done proactively by AutoNation. A simple phone call would have been nice to update me every few days, or once a week. But I got nothing. The fact that I had to initiate contact is a Red Flag for this dealership. How long would I have been in the dark if I didn’t call? And now what? What about all the hassle I went through sitting waiting in the lobby for hours, then signing all the paperwork for purchase. I was serious, and I didn’t want someone else to buy this vehicle. The message I’m getting is more or less, “Sorry dude, get lost, don’t tell me how to do my job, can’t sell you a car with problems (even though dealers do it ALL the time) and no we can’t negotiate price based on mechanical needs or condition”. What a load. I have photos to support/verify this story. More
