The Service Dept mis-diagnosed a major issue with my 2005 X5. They charged me an hour of labor ($107) to diagnose the problem, but did not actually look at the issue or try to recreate it. With that diagnosis, I spent just under $1,000 on various services. The day I picked up my car, I returned because the problem was still occurring. When they spent the time (5 minutes) to actually look at the problem, they told me it was a major internal engine repair that would cost $6,000 to get to - $3,000 to remove the head, some additional amount to repair the actual problem - and $3,000 to re-assemble the head. Had I known the actual problem the first time around, I would have never put close to $1,000 worth of service into the vehicle. When trying to discuss my concerns with the GM and Service Manager, I received the minimum required response (one phone call, two emails).
