Set back. More trouble then I bargained for. My experience with this dealership was horrendous. I brought my newly purchased certified pre owned Volkswagen into this dealership for an oil change My experience with this dealership was horrendous. I brought my newly purchased certified pre owned Volkswagen into this dealership for an oil change on Monday. I also was having issues with my rear view mirror attaching, and was told that would be fixed and covered by my CPO. I am a young graduate student who recently moved to Maryland from New York and thus have no additional supports down here. I am a first time vehicle owner, and this is my first time bringing my vehicle anywhere for service. I went to the dealership because my understanding was that the quality of service was at an above average standard here. I was wrong. After keeping my car over night to wait for a part, I was called and told that the mechanic working on my vehicle broke my windshield and that they would need to keep my car for an additional night/day. When I called the dealership back to discuss this matter, as I am a full time graduate student and commute over and hour on 95 south everyday for class. I was told that in similar situations, a loaner car would be provided, but right now "none are available". This is unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable. I made arrangements to get to and from my internship at the Montgomery county health and human services offices for the first day they needed to keep my car. now I am down and out yet another day, and have no way to attend my classes tomorrow (which I pay of pocket for). I never thought I would be this displeased with Volkswagen as their standard of customer service always seemed to be high. I have only owned my vehicle for 3 months and it is sad to say I am already regretting the decision. More
1 star because 0 was not an option These guys have really tanked since I bought my car there in 2009. I believe in spending my money locally but only if the customer service is good. I' These guys have really tanked since I bought my car there in 2009. I believe in spending my money locally but only if the customer service is good. I've been in and out of there for my cars needs over the years and learned early on that you have to be armed with info about what you are going in there for. If not they take every opportunity to charge you more than whats fair. My latest interaction has prompted this review. I had an exhaust sensor go bad in my car and no time to do it myself so I got a quote from Fitzgerald in Annapolis and these guys. Going into this I knew what the OEM sensor cost from the dealer and online. I get a price of $180 from Fitzgerald and $210 to install it. I call the service dept at Antwerpen and talk to Frank. He tells me the part will be $224 and 2 hours labor to put it in which equals $260. I ask him why the discrepancy in price for the part and he tells me that he's not sure why they can sell it to me for that price because it costs $184 from VW. He then comes back and says if I order the part from him and wait a day or so for to be shipped the price would be $147. Shouldn't it have been $147 to begin with especially for someone who bought there car there??? I tell Frank the difference is roughly $40 and its worth it to me not to wait. I bought the sensor from Fitzgeralds and thats when I find out the install is only $210 but they don't have availability until Monday to put it in. Surly Frank at Antwerpen will match the labor cost, right??? Nope, when I as Frank again why the discrepancy he says they are a competitor and he does not know what they charge for labor. Really Frank, you don't know what the competitor charges? $260 plus shop material charges. Shop materials is another way they can dig money out of your pocket to buy soap and paper towels for the mechanics. All shops have this charge but some are reasonable and some are not. The shop foreman tried to describe this to me as an "industry standard." Its amazing what they will tell you. So, to wrap this up keep driving right by this place! If you do go in for something, you better know in advance what a fair price is what you want done. They will take advantage of if you don't know. I believe is 2nd chances. People have a bad day, weren't hugged enough as a kid, or just make a mistake. I have given these guys more than a 2nd chance and they continually to prove how eager they are to be shady! Be sure to read the google reviews as well. More
I bought a brand new 2011 Jetta w/ Nav package in May of 2011. The sales experience was so-so. Salesman was a bit pushy but that is to be expected from a dealer but the entire experience went sour shortly 2011. The sales experience was so-so. Salesman was a bit pushy but that is to be expected from a dealer but the entire experience went sour shortly after purchase. At the 3000 mile courtesy check, I complained of several issues and was told by the service manager not to worry about of them because new cars 'settle'. I let it go because I knew they wouldn't do anything about my issues at the time. I waited until the 10k service and complained of issues with my HVAC system, interior fogging, crazy whistling noise from the front mirror, and a couple of fitment issues with the body (interior and exterior). Long story short, 2 months later and several interactions with VW of America's customer care line, I got the car back from Antwerpen. When I got it back, my low coolant light came on and I took the car back. I was told that since they had to pull the dash to fix the HVAC system, a bubble most likely formed in the coolant system. Throughout the 2 months in the shop, the dash was pulled 3-4 times. So, after a week of filling up my coolant system on near daily basis, it went back to the shop and it was discovered that when they pulled the dash, they created a leak but failed to test the system prior to returning it to me. Basically, the service department took an incredible amount of time to acknowledge issues with my car, took even longer to fix the issues, and then created new issues when returning my car. I eventually got the car back with issues still there with it, after a total of 2.5 months total at Antwerpen. I took the car to Fitzgerald VW in Annapolis and they fixed everything in 2 weeks, even things that Antwerpen said there were no issues with... Overall, TERRIBLE SERVICE... I purchased the car 8 months ago but was only able to have the car for ~6 but I experience problems throughout the entire time that I was dealing with Antwerpen. More

These guys are a joke. Their sales department is shady and their service department is just as bad. As just one example, my car had a defective water pump that started squealing at about 45,000 miles. Eve and their service department is just as bad. As just one example, my car had a defective water pump that started squealing at about 45,000 miles. Even though it was a known issue that affected many VWs, Antwerpen had to keep the car "diagnosing" the problem for nearly 10 days, and I actually had to *make a recording of the squealing noise* and play it for them before the problem was fixed. I asked them to replace the timing belt at the same time, since they were already doing all the necessary labor and since the timing belt was undoubtedly strained by the defective water pump bearing. They refused, even when I offered to pay for the replacement timing belt. There are many other stories I could tell but Antwerpen VW frankly isn't worth the space. Avoid like the plague. More
