Unprofessional and Insulting I had been looking for an Acura TLX V6 SH-AWD with Technology Package for a few months when I came across a listing by Annapolis Car Center for a 2016 I had been looking for an Acura TLX V6 SH-AWD with Technology Package for a few months when I came across a listing by Annapolis Car Center for a 2016 model with 43,640 miles listed at $20,994. I reached out hoping to negotiate an out-the-door price of $20,500, or if not doable, the best offer they could provide inclusive of tax/tag/title/fees. I received a response the next morning from Joe Elliot, the Senior Sales Consultant at Annapolis Car Center, that was extraordinarily unprofessional and rude. First, the concept that someone would offer less than asking price when negotiating on a car seemed foreign to Mr. Elliott, who stated “I would like to know where you came up with your figure for the purchase price, you offered me less than my asking price, and expect me to pay your tax tags and fees.” Also, negotiating an out-the-door price inclusive of tax/tags/fees is a commonly recommended bargaining strategy for consumers, to avoid any hidden or unexpected fees at the dealership. Again, Mr. Elliott was unusually affronted by this quotidienne request. Second, while not unreasonably priced, the vehicle was NOT priced “$2,000 under what KBB and NADA suggest” he sell it for. CarGurus lists the vehicle at $1052 below market price. KBB Lists the fair market price range for the vehicle to be between $19,389 - $21,918. NADA lists clean retail price at $22,225 (difference of $1,231). Third, while I would have liked the best deal possible, I was open to negotiation. Yet rather than providing a counteroffer, Mr. Elliott replied, “If this is all of the money you have to spend on a vehicle I suggest you look for one a little less expensive,” an insulting way to address a potential client. Lastly, the same day, I reached a deal with another dealership (shout out to Prince Frederick Ford!!) on a 2015 Acura TLX V6 SH-AWD with Technology Package at 48,000 miles. Prior to even setting foot in the door, I had a written offer for an out-the-door price of $20,996 inclusive of all tax/tag/title/fees. (And on arrival, I found the car to be in excellent condition). Judging by the other reviews left on Google, I am not the only one who has had a poor experience with Annapolis Car Center. Before purchasing a vehicle, do your research on fair market value, shop around and consider taking your business to a different dealership! More
