It was detailed. it looked good on the lot and looks good in our driveway! More

The check engine light is on now and it is in desperate need of more repairs. I was told yesterday that my truck, which now has 88k miles, has a bunch of junk yard parts in the engine compartment. STAY AWAY OR GO BROKE! More
Very Dissappointed STAY AWAY! Deceitful family business. I purchased an 02 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with 86k miles from them and dealt with Shafer (son) and Jeff (fathe STAY AWAY! Deceitful family business. I purchased an 02 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with 86k miles from them and dealt with Shafer (son) and Jeff (father/owner). I got shuffled back and forth between the 2 of them, which allows them to be ‘not quite sure’ about anything! They are pros at it! They put a higher price on every vehicle then ‘slash’ the price. They are non-negotiable on their price because it has already been reduced. Every car on their website and lot is ‘on sale’. I was told my vehicle was reduced $2000, and they had owned it less than a week. My truck is nice looking and it seemed to be in great shape. When I got home, my son and I noticed a smell coming from the engine compartment but weren’t sure what it was. Two days later the ‘check engine’ light came on, and a couple days later it overheated. My normal mechanic was booked up and a friend, who works on all of his vehicles, replaced the thermostat. He told me someone else had already worked on the cooling system and there were several hoses that were just pushed on and didn’t have any clamps. He put clamps on for me. Then when I drove the truck, the coolant poured out under the vehicle. On my next day off, about 1 ½ weeks after purchasing the vehicle and only putting about 150 miles on it, I went back to American Imports Indy and talked to Shafer and explained to him that I have had nothing but problems ever since I purchased the truck. He told me to bring it in and they would look at it. I did the next day, Saturday, and was told they would look at it on Monday and if I didn’t hear from them by 1:00 to call them. I called about 2:30 on Monday and asked for Shafer, I was told he was busy and talked to his dad, Jeff. He told me they think it was the water pump but weren’t really sure, that the paperwork when I dropped off said check coolant leak and that’s what they did, they weren’t going to do any repairs and I needed to pick it back up and take it to a mechanic. They don’t do repairs like that, only brakes and things of that sort. I was upset and he told me he didn’t know what was said when I brought the truck back, and that he was put in the middle. I told him to go ask his son who was there! He told me he would gather more info and call me back. He called about 5:00 and I was informed again that they weren’t going to help with the repairs since I didn’t buy a warranty, and if I wanted a new vehicle I should have gone down the road to Blossom Chevrolet. I purchased a 14 year old truck and didn’t expect it to be like new and it wasn’t. The locking gas cap was broken and fell off when I went to put gas in, both door locks were seized and didn’t work (it has keyless entry), the lock in the hard cover is broken and won’t open without being repaired, the spare is thrown in the bed for some reason, the handle on the passenger side headliner is missing… but at 86k miles I didn’t think I needed a warranty. Shafer told me, with the company being a family owned business that he has to wear ‘many hats’ (purchasing, driver, sales… and even a mechanic). He told me that they purchase a lot of vehicles from new dealerships because they get a lot of trade-ins, and that HE got my truck from Ray Skillman, but they are nowhere in the paperwork. When I talked to him about the truck having previous coolant issues because of all the clamps that were missing, he told me it was really cold last week and sometimes when it gets really cold, they just break and fall off. Was he wearing his ‘dunce’ hat or ‘liar, liar’? Jeff, the owner, told me that he had driven the truck and what a nice vehicle I was getting. (FACT – from a dealer in Roseville, MI to a used car dealer on N. College in Indianapolis, to American Imports to me, it was only driven 49 miles including my test drive.) He said that one of the guys in the back told him to let him know if it didn’t sell. He says they only do that when they get a really good one in. First of all, he works there and would know if it sold, and secondly, he is a mechanic? When I talked to him on the phone about repairs, he told me that they have didn’t have time to work on my truck. They have “130 vehicles there that need worked on”. Well, that is the most honest words I have heard come out of his mouth. Most likely every vehicle he owns needs a mechanic! They don’t provide a CARFAX because per Jeff “it is too expensive” and they don’t allow their vehicles be taken off site to a mechanic per Shafer. Please take time to read the reviews. People have said, car was junk, no clean, weren’t even operational, transmission issue, wasn’t even running, wouldn’t even start, everything on lot has check engine light, don’t buy unless you are looking for a fixer upper, not ready to sell, too many issues… and I’m sure you don’t want to be another one of them! To date, I have owned the vehicle 16 days and have only been able to drive it 4, and that is only because I work less than 2 miles from home and only live about 5 miles from American Imports Indy. It is in the shop being worked on by an actual mechanic for repairs that will cost me several hundred dollars or more. I will try to post updates, but wanted to share my experience as soon as possible to hopefully prevent someone else from making the same MISTAKE! More
