Shopping for a used car is never easy. After sleazy pressure tactics at several dealers, we saw the car we wanted at a fair price at All American Motors on South Tacoma Way. There we were greeted with a friendly smile and directed to the 2017 Ford Explorer with 48,000 miles. Mike Dargan introduced himself and promptly grabbed the keys to let us to check it out, with none of the smarmy phoniness so common among used car salesmen. Mike answered our questions, and when he didn’t know promised to find it. We asked to take a test drive. After scanning my license and signing a simple form, we took to the highway and put the SUV through its paces. There was no salesman drive-along peppering us with questions to better craft his sales pitch. Upon our return, Mike asked if we liked it or perhaps try another. Once again, no pressure – just information. Without even requesting one, Mike printed us the 10 page CARFAX that detailed the vehicle’s entire history, ownership, service records, etc. He left us alone to scrutinize the car and the CARFAX. After catching his eye again, Mike asked if we’d made a decision. We asked for a small discount because it needed a new set of tires. Mike examined the tires and honestly answered, “Yes, they probably have six months left. Mike took our offer to his boss who quickly returned and after a friendly haggle over a couple hundred dollars, a fair deal was made. Then to the actual purchase. Once again, no attempts were made to layer on extras or sell expensive warranties. The paperwork was soon dispatched and signed. Everyone at All American Motors was friendly. And during no part of the couple hour exercise including driving 15 miles around town did we feel the least amount of pressure. This is how used cars should be sold . . . and our case was, at All American Motors. We drove off the lot promising to share our experience because it was so awesome. More
