What Others Say
Sales: This department was the only bright point of the entire interaction. This group was very low pressure & the salespeople didn't Stalk you on the lot. They gave me a business card, let me walk the lot & then answered all my of questions in detail. Now, to caveat this statement with: They are not going to offer extra information that you should be made aware of about the vehicles. When you find a vehicle you are interested in test driving, ask them if they have any issue with you using a “Fixd” OBD scanner. If they say “No, you can’t do that”, walk away.
Finance: This is where the Shine starts to fade a LOT & the experience rapidly goes downhill. As with most used car dealerships, they will throw quite a bit of numbers at you stating; This is one of the best deals I have seen this lender provide. You are getting a really great deal! Just sign here. Don't believe it, if possible, go in with your own financing already in place. They will tell you that they can get you a better APR or monthly payment by going through their lenders. Sandra, from Norfolk, flat out told me they won’t take client provided funding/funds, because Sullivan’s won’t receive a kickback & that is how they make most of their money in these deals. If you want to look at what they can provide, please do so. Just remember that they are going to try to get you to go with one of their lenders, because they get something extra out of the deal.
Now, most likely they are going to push a Service Contract on used vehicles. If you remember to; ask what company they are going through & if they say “DKP”, tell them “No, Thank you” & you will be going with a more reputable company. The Contract will drive the monthly price up anywhere from $50 to $325, depending on the coverage you request, on certain vehicles. Go with
Assurant or CarShield, their prices are better, they are more reputable, & they are accepted just about everywhere. DKP will tell you that you can go to any repair facility, this is not true. DKP will find a way to deny a claim.
Service: What experienced Automotive Technician can’t put an oil filter on properly? What Experienced Automotive Technician doesn’t remember to tighten 3 out of the 5 Lug Nuts? What experienced Automotive Technician doesn’t know where the battery is located in the vehicle they are repairing, especially if they have said they needed to disconnect the battery to work on the vehicle? I could literally go on & on. I know that marking up a price on a part is commonplace in the Automotive repair world. However, marking up the price & charging more
for Labor should not be norm. Not only do they treat clients like they are imbecilic, Jay has thrown his Techs under the bus,”. This Dept will always push back on any Claim that you try to submit to DKP. Their reasons will stretch from the part isn’t covered to just outright lying about how the damage occurred in the first place. The only person I have come to trust in this Department is the Woman at the Service Desk. She has, on several occasions, tried to help me when Jay wouldn’t. At this time; the Service Manager is a man by the name of Jay. I have
personally caught Jay lying to me 3 times. This prompted me to make a call to the BBB, who amazed me with where they can place cameras under the hood. Even if you don’t contact the BBB, there is a very easy way to tell if Jay is lying: His lips will be moving & words will be coming out of his mouth.
Sullivan’s - Norfolk, Va
While I haven’t purchased a vehicle from this location, if their Sales dept is indicative of what the overall process would be like, then they are not much better than the Fredericksburg site. I wouldn’t put too much faith in this company overall.
I gave this review 1 star, because of my interaction with that one individual, in the Service Department, at Sullivan’s Fredericksburg. Also, I only dealt with 1 person while trying to purchase a vehicle from the Va Beach Site. Also, they will run your credit without your OK.
Bought Volvo and yes I know it's a used car but paid about $30k for the car had it a month and a half and drove 1500 miles and antifreeze leaked everywhere. I'm 3 hours away from them. When I called and talked about it with them I said should I take this to Volvo they said no just a local repair shop that I trust cause it would be cheaper. Then after I had it repaired and called them back and sent the invoice they said oh you should have let us pick up the car on our roll back and let us fix the car, we won't pay after a shop repairs? Well that was never offered to me at all was just told take it to a shop. So much for doing business with a nice Christian shop... If I was told this from the beginning I would have let them pick up the car and had them repair the car... it was never offered I feel it was just something for them to say after the fact cause they didn't want to pay to beginning with...
I was dealing on a Honda CRV EXL ,very nice vehicle but beware of the $1497 processing Fee !! I thought the new car dealerships were crooked.
Horrible dealership after the sale. Don’t buy here, especially online!!! 3/4 a tank of fuel, only 1 key fob, and no Owners manuals on a low mileage 2020 Acura MDX we paid over $30k for. Buy elsewhere. No contact regarding those issues after the sale. Stay away from Zoya, a younger female salesperson with little or no knowledge of how proper car sales works. Even after speaking with the owner, Will about negotiating a price; we were never contacted after the sale. $400 for a 2nd fob, and $89 for a new set of Owners manuals is ridiculous and should have been the dealers responsibility, not ours…
I usually don’t write reviews but I have seen some negative reviews on Sullivan auto and wanted to provide my perspective. I will say that reading some of the negative reviews worried me as I went through the process but can say with confidence that they were a pleasure to do business with and I would definitely buy from them again.
I live in Boston and was purchasing a 2020 Land Rover Discovery from them. The price was definitely the best I saw out there. But since I was buying remotely, they allowed me to get an independent mechanic to do a full inspection and the car came back with good marks (just some minor issues which Sullivan fixed). I was getting the car delivered to Charlottesville which Sullivan took care of and made it very seamless. We’ve only had the car for a couple of weeks but so far so good. The only issue I would bring up is sometimes it was hard to get in touch with people while going through the process and that extended the timeline out a bit but that was a relatively minor issue.
