Great service at this dealership. We were able to get back on the road to Oregon very quickly,
Bait and Switch I was extremely disappointed with the way my oil change was handled today at Ron Sayer Nissan. I went into the dealership expecting to get an oil change at $39.99, like they were advertising at their store front, only to be left with a bill at a 77% mark-up. The thing that disappointed me most is I had taken my car in, earlier this year, for other repairs. They noticed that I had an oil leak and told me it was due to the previous place having used the wrong parts, they asked me what I had paid for the oil change ($38.00). When I told them, they said I should just bring it to them and they would use the correct parts and the price was the same. Once I was given the bill today of $70.92 and questioned them why it was higher the service manager said it was due to the vehicle requiring synthetic oil and if they used regular oil it would “damage the engine”. This information didn’t seem correct to me, because why would a dealership advertise an oil change at one rate using conventional oil (that would damage the engine of the cars they sale), instead of just listing the price for the “required” oil for their vehicles. I also checked the owner’s manual to see if that information was correct once I got home. I found that the manual lists Nissan oil as preferred, but also says that if conventional oil is used it doesn’t void the warranty, so it’s perfectly fine to use without destroying the engine. (9-2 Technical and consumer information) I called the service center back and questioned them with that information, and they gave me the run around how they just use the recommended oil (which was more expensive than their advertised price) and don’t question the customer if they want the more expensive product or not. Every other place I have ever dealt with has started at the base package and then asked if I would like to use a more expensive product, instead of advertising one price and then automatically changing the product and leaving the customer stuck with the inflated price. I wasn’t trying to get them to give me a free oil change, but just trying to get them to give it to me at the price they had advertised and previously told me was the rate of their oil changes but they refused to do so. I hate to say this, but when this whole interaction was over, I felt like the stereotypical woman at a mechanic shop scenario. Even when presented with facts from their service manual, they blew me off like I didn’t understand anything about my vehicle and didn’t know what I was talking about. Just be aware before you go in that they will have an inflated bill waiting for you by the end, without discussing anything with you beforehand and you’re stuck with the charges.
