The 2021 Bronco marked the triumphant return of an American icon. The Big Bend trim was the second-from-base model (above the Base trim) and quickly became one of the most popular choices because it added key comfort and appearance features without a huge price jump. At a Glance: 2021 Ford Bronco Big Bend Segment: Midsize Body-On-Frame SUV Body Styles: 2-Door or 4-Door Trim Level: Lower Mid-Grade (Above Base, below Black Diamond, Outer Banks, etc.) Key Selling Points: Excellent value, core Bronco styling, and a great foundation for both daily driving and weekend adventures. Performance & Drivetrain The Big Bend shared the core powertrain options with most of the lineup. Engine Options: Standard: 2.3L EcoBoost Turbocharged Inline-4 Horsepower: 300 hp Torque: 325 lb-ft Optional: 2.7L EcoBoost Twin-Turbo V6 (A popular upgrade) Horsepower: 330 hp Torque: 415 lb-ft Transmission: Standard: 7-Speed Manual (6 forward gears + 1 crawler gear) with a dedicated 4x4 transfer case. Optional: 10-Speed Automatic Drivetrain: Standard Part-Time 4-Wheel Drive with a two-speed electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case (2H, 4H, 4L). Driving Dynamics: On-Road: The ride is comfortable for a body-on-frame SUV, but it's noticeably stiffer and more truck-like than a unibody crossover (like a RAV4 or CX-30). Road noise is present, especially with larger all-terrain tires. Off-Road: This is where the Bronco shines. Even in Big Bend trim, it's incredibly capable. The standard 4x4 system, high ground clearance, and available locking rear differential make it competent on rough trails. Exterior & Interior Features The Big Bend added important styling and comfort features over the spartan Base model. Exterior: Wheels & Tires: 17-inch Silver Aluminum wheels with all-season tires. This was one of its few off-road limitations, as most buyers would upgrade to All-Terrains. Signature LED Fog Lamps: Standard. Removable Doors & Roof: A core Bronco feature. The standard roof was a modular 3-piece hardtop on the 4-door and a soft top on the 2-door. Interior: Upholstery: Comfortable and durable cloth seats, but with a unique sand-colored mesh pattern that gave it a more upscale, outdoor-gear look. Infotainment: An 8-inch center touchscreen running Ford's SYNC® 4 system. This included: Standard: Apple CarPlay & Android Auto Standard: Wi-Fi Hotspot Convenience: A 4G LTE modem, extra USB ports, and floor liners with a wash-out interior (rubberized floors with drains) were key standard features.
