This modern SUV boasts impressive fuel economy, respectable all-electric range, and plenty of features - as one of the more affordable hybrids in its class! The 2020 Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid received the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation. It also won the Auto Express Driver Power 2020 Best Plug-in Hybrid award. Additionally, the Niro Plug-In Hybrid was recognized with a Red Dot Design Award in the ''Product Design'' category. How's the fuel economy? Edmunds' Niro test car consistently delivered 26 miles of EV range and surpassed its 46 mpg EPA combined city/highway estimate. They averaged 56 mpg over the course of 300-plus miles. The Niro plug-in hybrid can charge in about nine hours using a standard household-style power outlet. With a 240-volt outlet, you can charge it in about two and a half hours. Kia's Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine is more powerful and efficient than its leading competitors. It directly injects highly-pressurized fuel into the cylinders of the engine. This happens during the combustion cycle, increasing combustion and efficiency. To help steer clear of premature ignition, fuel is evaporated and cooled into a mix of air/fuel.
