The Audi R8 was not designed in a styling studio and then handed to an engineering team. It started as a race car. The R8's origins trace directly to Audi's Le Mans program, which dominated endurance racing in the early 2000s, and the engineers built the road car around that same philosophy of lightweight construction, all-wheel drive, and a mid-mounted engine. The result was a supercar that felt immediately approachable, rewarding, and genuinely usable in a way that most cars at this price point are not.
