2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro First shown as a SEMA concept and unleashed for sale in 2012, Chevrolet's modern COPO Camaro was purpose-built after five years of intensive development work to take on the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet and Dodge Challenger Drag Pak for NHRA Sportsman-class competition. Just 69 were produced, precisely matching the 69 ZL1 Camaros manufactured for drag racing use under Chevrolet's infamous COPO (Central Office Production Order) system back in 1969. Of those 69 modern COPO cars produced, two were convertibles and 67 were coupes. Depending on the drag-racing class considered, available COPO Camaro power choices included a supercharged 5.3L LSX with 2.9L capacity blower, a naturally aspirated 7.0L V-8 or a supercharged 350 CI LSX. These all-out, factory-built drag cars are totally worthy of their hallowed designation and were launched to ''instant icon'' status. Carrying Serial No. 18 of the 69 COPO Camaros produced, this all-out 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro Coupe has never been tracked, despite its status as an NHRA-certified factory COPO drag car. Powered by a 427 CI V-8 engine, naturally aspirated, hand-assembled and features Holley electronic fuel injection as well as open exhaust headers. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed ATI TH400 automatic transmission and a Strange Engineering rear axle with 4.57:1 gearing. Staggered-width Bogart racing wheels are mounted with Hoosier drag slicks. Stopping power is provided by Strange Engineering four-piston calipers over slotted rotors all around. The suspension system features a four-link setup with a Panhard rod out back as well as Strange Engineering adjustable coilovers at all four corners. The interior is fitted with NHRA-spec racing seats with five-point Simpson harnesses and a driver-side window net. The leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel frames AutoMeter instrumentation including a tachometer mounted to the A-pillar of the safety cage as well as gauges for fuel pressure, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and transmission fluid temperature. Additional equipment includes an eight-point roll cage, a Hurst Quarterstick shifter, and auxiliary switches controlling the ignition system, fuel pump, radiator fan, and starter. It is visually striking in its purposeful Summit White exterior with matte red graphic stripes. Equipment includes a Simpson parachute, wheelie bars, and a carbon-fiber cowl hood with an air intake. A racing fuel cell with an Eliminator fuel pump is mounted in the trunk along with the battery. Documents include the COPO Camaro owner's binder, and this factory-built racing contender is sold on a bill of sale.
