* The 2014 BMW X1 is only in its second year as an American citizen, so no major changes have ensued, nor were any needed. This self-proclaimed sports activity vehicle is a celebrated part of the BMW X family and shows itself to be a unique member at that. Seen from the front, the X1 delivers a great sense of confidence. Wide wheel arches, a bold seven-slat twin kidney grille, and a three-dimensional surround across the headlights immediately signals the rugged BMW DNA. Additional cues, such as a chrome accent strip atop the twin Corona headlight rings, as well as an LED accent light, enhance the elegance. It can easily accommodate five adults, plus a load of cargo with ease. Adjustable front seats and front center armrest offer the comfort of eight-way support. With a choice of upholstery, paired to a wide variety of trims, heated front seats and steering wheel, each interior is a customized work of art. The 2014 X1 boasts seamless acceleration and handling, rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, and impressive fuel efficiency. There are two engines offered at 2L or 3L, both turbocharged, flaunting 240 to 300hp. If a driver selects BMW Assist, an emergency switchboard, navigation system, and information services are ready all in one on an integrated screen. A rear view camera can also provide visual parking aids. Standard equipment includes dynamic cruise control, rain-sensing windshield wipers with automatic headlight control, and automatic climate control. In addition, an eight-speaker, 180-watt sound system fills this SAV with concert sound, or can easily be upgraded to the Harman Kardon surround.
