The M5 featured a formidable 4.9-liter V8 engine producing 394 bhp and 369 lb-ft of torque, paired with a precise six-speed manual transmission, ensuring an exhilarating driving experience while retaining the practicality of the 5 Series sedan it is based on. The M5 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Without the limiter, this powerhouse is capable of achieving an astonishing 186 mph. Production of the E39 M5 began in late October 1998 and continued through 2003.
