Welcome to our listing for a 1997 Portofino Red Defender 90 Station Wagon. This D90 has a clean CARFAX report, and only 79,700 original miles. Options included 4.0L V8 Engine, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive, ZF 4-speed Automatic Transmission, Air Conditioning, Bull Bar, Side Running Steps, Rear Ladder, (4) inward facing Jump Seats, Sunroof, 265/75/16 BF Goodrich Tires, and 16” Alloy Wheels (matching spare).

Refurbishing included stripping, refinishing and reinstalling all exterior metals and plastics, new paint-matched alloy hinges, new stainless-steel hardware, new exterior lenses, new tires, 1-step paint correction, servicing, and more! The engine bay, undercarriage, interior and exterior are in great condition, but expect some wear for a 27-year-old vehicle.

This D90 runs, drives, shifts, and brakes just as it was designed. The 182 HP engine has good, smooth acceleration and the transmission shifts smoothly between all four gears. The brakes have plenty of life left, and the power steering is smooth and tight. The suspension rides well, all bushings and ball joints are in good condition, and the tires are nearly new. The stock exhaust has a nice sound and no leaks.

All six seats are clean and show little signs of wear, and the headliner is tight. The carpet is clean and free from stains, and the front rubber matting is new. The ALPINE stereo (AM/ FM/ USB/ Bluetooth) sounds great through the (4) factory OEM speakers. The dash is original and shows very little wear.

The exterior features refinished exterior metals and plastics, new hinges, new stainless-steel hardware, new exterior lenses, and new tires. Expect a few nicks, dings, chips, and other surface imperfections typical for a Defender of this age. The original Portofino Red paint (one of the rarest colors on a ‘97 D90 SW) shows some very light patina and is in far better shape than most other 1997 vehicles.

This Defender is badge #210 of approximately 500 late-1997 NAS Defender 90’s made for North America (meeting all US compliances), but never sold new in North America. The US considered all vehicles built after September 01, 1997 to be 1998 model years. All 1998 US vehicles mandated air bags, and thus ended the 5 year importation of NAS Defenders (‘93 - ‘97). These roughly 500 units were sent primarily to the Japanese and Saudi Arabian markets until legalization of importing began in 2006.
