*1991 Porsche 911 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet* After nearly 30 years of evolution with the 911 range, the 964 was a significant step forward in many ways for the model. A completely new air cooled engine known as the M64 saw the 964 receiving advanced electronic fuel injection and a twin-ignition system was just the start. Suspension finally moved away from the antiquated torsion bars, changing to McPherson struts, and the gearbox received a dual-mass flywheel which greatly improved refinement. It was also the first 911 to be offered in all-wheel drive, which was optioned on this 1991 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. Finished in a beautiful shade of black, this 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet has been the subject of an on-going multi-year restoration, where it has been worked on by some of the most respected names in the Porsche world. The consignor purchased this car 12 years ago and has spent his ownership trying to make it perfect with receipts for more than $100,000 spent in reconditioning. One of the major jobs carried out was a complete repaint by Queen City Auto Rebuild of Redmond, WA in the original factory color. Completed in 2015, this alone cost in excess of $30,000. The car currently sits on a set of Porsche Cup 2 wheels, which are wrapped in tires that have less than 1,000 miles on them. The interior of this 964 features black leather seats, with gray carpeting and door panel trim. The 964 received a number of interior updates upon its debut including backlit gauges, an improved climate control layout and a taller transmission tunnel that brought the shifter more in line with the driver. The only modifications of note in this example are the metal trim rings around the gauges and an upgraded stereo head unit with Bluetooth capabilities. Sitting in the back is the 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-6 known as the M64. The unit in this car was recently rebuilt by Porsche racing experts Patrick Motorsports in Tucson, AZ including new valves, liners and pistons. The rebuild was to factory specifications and has resulted in an engine that runs remarkably smoothly and pulls hard all through the rev-range. This is then connected to a G50 5-speed manual gearbox, and sends power to all four wheels. The all-wheel drive system in the 964 was a simplified version of the system found in Porsches 959 supercar and features a dial inside the car to change the torque split on the fly. Recently, a new transaxle was installed up front to insure the system works as designed and offers the impressive amount of grip the system was known for. Although the 964 was rather unloved by enthusiasts for some time, it has now become just about the most desirable generation of 911 out there. It is a generation that spans the gap between modern and classic, offering the unfiltered driving experience people want from a 911, but with enough comfortable amenities and reliability to be used every day.
