Ford created the uniquely green Mustangs as giveaway vehicles for a 7-Up Bottling Company promotion during the NCAA basketball finals in Denver. However, at the last minute and for reasons unknown, the promotion was canceled. Instead of abandoning the concept, Ford chose to produce a limited-edition Mustang model, which not only served to protect the companyâs design investment but also satisfied enthusiastsâ demand for a special edition to commemorate the Mustangâs 25th anniversary. Although not officially a 25th anniversary model, the convertibles became known as the 7-Up 25th Anniversary Editions. All were Deep Emerald Green with white leather interiors, white convertible tops, GT âturbineâ wheels and 5.0L/225 HP High Output V-8s.
