It was a dashing detective in Hawaii, rather than numerous Le Mans and F1 victories, that made 'Ferrari' a household word to the average American in the early 1980s. Every week, the opening sequence of 'Magnum, P.I.' showed his 308 fishtailing down the road, throttle mashed, the top's center section always removed to let the sun shine in (in truth, it was to allow more headroom for the six-foot, four-inch Tom Selleck). Six feet, four inches: That's the height of actor Tom Selleck, who debuted in the CBS detective series Magnum, P.I. on December 11, 1980. Selleck was so tall that padding had to be removed from the driver's seat cushion of his Ferrari 308 GTS so his head wouldn't stick out of the top of the car during filming. At 79, it's unlikely Selleck could leap into his Ferrari the way he did through the show's eight-year run. But for many of us who grew up during Magnum's tenure in Hawaii, posters of his Ferrari hung on our bedroom walls, forever imprinting the coolness of the Prancing Horse brand.Equipped with modern amenities, such as air conditioning and electric windows, this Ferrari ensures comfort and convenience without compromising its performance-oriented nature. The inclusion of a limited slip differential enhances traction and handling, allowing for precise control and exhilarating driving dynamics. The five-spoke alloy wheels further accentuate the car's sporty demeanor while providing a timeless aesthetic. Under the hood lies Ferrari's revered 2.9-liter V8 engine, paired with a gated five-speed manual transaxle, delivering a symphony of power and performance. This combination promises an unforgettable driving experience, characterized by exhilarating acceleration and razor-sharp handling. This 1982 Ferrari 308 GTSi represents a true automotive icon, coveted by enthusiasts and collectors alike for its blend of timeless design, exhilarating performance, and unparalleled heritage. From its profile, the aerodynamic vehicle boasted a raked windshield with slim A-pillars. The removable roof could be stored behind the seats, while the broad B-posts were triangular and extended towards the car's back. The automaker placed a vertical rear window behind the cabin and in front of the engine's lid. At the same time, the round air intakes that flanked the bodywork were placed on the waistline, just above the rear quarter panels, creating an iconic image for the 308 lineup. Finally, at the back, Ferrari installed twin round taillights, where the reversing lights were integrated into those mounted inwards. The leather-wrapped interior of the 308 GTSi featured a pair of bucket seats with bolstered areas to provide enough side support for their occupants. Fronting the driver was a clean-looking instrument cluster with two large dials for the speedometer and tachometer and three additional gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. In addition, on the center console, the automaker added a couple of extra gauges for the ammeter and an analog clock. Under the hood, Ferrari placed the same 2.9-liter V8 found in the previous version of the car, albeit improved by a fuel injection system. That allowed the Italian car manufacturer to provide customers with a 244 PS (240 hp) engine. It paired it with a five-speed manual transmission that sent all the oomph to the rear wheels. This Ferrari is accompanied by a complete set of factory owner's manuals and case, the original tools and tool roll, original jack and tire tools in the case, a black roof storage bag, spare belts, misc. parts, spare keys, the factory spare light bulb case with bulbs, various accessory and options brochures and assorted invoices from current ownership.
