On October 6, 1966, a revolutionary new Cadillac model hit dealer showrooms, marking the culmination of various daring experimental design studies beginning with the GM XP-727 in 1962. Featuring all-new razor-edged, formal coupe styling, the breathtaking 1967 Eldorado remains a design benchmark today. Equipped with an innovative front-drive powertrain package, the new Eldorado delivered excellent handling and roadholding. Predictably, the 1967 Eldorado immediately attracted a great deal of high-profile media attention. Accolades included the coveted Design and Excellence Award from Automobile Quarterly, plus heady praise from Car Life, which compared the Eldorado to ''the sort of visually distinctive, tastefully luxurious, enormously expensive, individualistic conveyance which characterized the Classic Era of Automobile design.'' There was plenty of support for such a statement. Fit and finish were outstanding, interiors plush, and performance strong.
Cadillac's 429 cubic-inch V-8 engine delivered 340 bhp and 480 pounds-feet of torque, enough to propel the 4,590 lb. Eldorado from 0 to 60 in 10 seconds with top speed an illegal, but exhilarating 130 mph. Front-wheel drive, variable-ratio power steering, and automatic rear level control provided exceptional roadholding. With its innovative front-drive powertrain and crisp styling that continues to influence today?s Cadillac models, the original front-drive Eldorado continues to make a dramatic statement unlike any other car. An instant hit with buyers, the new front-drive Eldorado enjoyed high demand with eager buyers tolerating long wait times and snapping up 17,930 examples in 1967.
Clearly well-maintained and featured in fabulous Atlantis Blue Firemist paint over a blue leather interior, this 1967 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is an excellent offering with just 39,346 indicated miles at the time of writing. As expected, factory options are numerous, including air conditioning, AM/FM radio, and tilt steering, plus power features addressing the brakes, locks, mirrors, front seat, steering, and windows. A fresh service and detailing makes this wonderful Eldorado ready for driving and touring enjoyment. Cadillac's first front-drive model and one of the first such cars produced in America since the Cord 810/812 of the 1930s, this outstanding 1967 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is a wonderful find and certainly a must-have for any collector or enthusiast of the greatest automobiles ever produced.
